It's been years since I've watched a movie in a cinema ... Animal Kingdom .. gritty and brutal Australian film about a criminal family and their clash with the Victorian police force, and with each other .. Ben Mendelsohn is fucking brilliant as a psychotic who holds power over his brothers and nephew (some chilling mind games in there) ... I found it non-moralising and edgy as fuck.

Agora, about a holy war between religious factions (pagans vs Christians vs Jews) in ancient Alexandria. Sounded really good. Blurbs on the cover read "Bravura filmmaking!" and "Flat-out gorgeous!" and "Epic!". In fact, the film should have been called A-bore-a, because it was boring as fuck and not particularly engaging.

Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga'Hoole. Thought this would be really cool because it was directed by Zack Snyder of 300 and Watchmen fame. Beautiful animation, that's for sure, but the story seemed like same-old-same-old kinda shit to me.

Let Me In. Despite some great stylistic flourishes and wonderful performances by the actors, this nevertheless leaves something to be desired, particularly if you've seen the Swedish original.

About Schmidt. I didn't know anything about this film going into it except that Jack Nicholson was the star. I thought it would more of a comedy, but it turnt out to be more of a drama. Didn't mind though because it was a very good drama, and it did have plenty of funny bits in it to keep things lively. Funny but sad. Very touching. Doesn't try too hard to be touching. It just is. I cried a lot watching this film, and laughed lots as well. I liked it.
