Re: Cyclone Yasi
The latest video summary at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuDyTfvj ... rofilepage is good.
6 to 7m storm surge. The most powerful tropical cyclone to hit Aus in living memory. Plus this will bring more rain to southern parts of the country, which is already sodden from earlier floods. Are you guys sure you didn't do anything to piss god off?

One problem they will face is that many of the state emergency personel are either still working in southern Queensland in the flood cleanup, or are recovering from exaustion...
They need another major emergency like a hole in the head...
Nasty bushfire down our way in Victoria as well...

Jesus shitting christ, Durro posted this over at RatSkep. Look at this motherfucker superimposed on the continental U.S.

The eye is 80 km across. Makes Katrina look like a thunderstorm.
I hope all y'all are battened down or evacuated, this is going to be a hell of a rough ride.

Re: Cyclone Yasi
It's a fucking awesome cyclone.

We were at the Gold Coast, south of Cairns over the weekend (weather was really nice), and flew out to Adelaide on Monday, I'm very pleased to say.
Indeed. It's going to have an horrendous impact on livestock and wildlife too.laklak wrote:I hope all y'all are battened down or evacuated, this is going to be a hell of a rough ride.

I hope it does miss NZ as the forecasts predict, otherwise we'd be absolutely obliterated...
