Visually it really appealed, but the plot/dialogue/everything else was rubbish.

8. '9'
9. Alice/Něco z Alenky - Jan Švankmajer 1988

And 10. Spiklenci Slasti (Conspirators Of Pleasure)

Another Jan Švankmajer, fucking weird :ask: Carp toe-sucking, dressing up as a chicken, furry rolling pins and some woman sticking dough balls in her nose and ears. Oh, and the wank machine. Erm, not sure what to make of it.. it did make me laugh though. Have another Jan Švankmajer film to watch later, can it get weirder :ask:
I have Alice and Faust, and liked them both. They were weird, but cool weird. More recently, I watched Little Otik. It annoyed the shit out of me. I thought it was just weird for the sake of being weird. And not cool weird this time, but retarded weird. In the extras on the DVD, Švankmajer even admitted that he just fucking made it all up as he went along. And this whole time I thought things meant something or had some significance in his films. Nope, apparently not :ddpan:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

 I've just finished watching Little Otik and came to add it. I kind of enjoyed it :? It dragged on a bit, but the fairytale was interesting - I do like fairytales, they're often so dark and twisted in their original form before they're Disneyfied. The acting I thought was pretty good and I enjoyed getting a glimpse of another culture. I have Szaleni ready to watch next then I really should start on some of his short films. Can you recommend any?

Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Sorry, Mille. Those are the only ones I've ever watched :dunno:

I'm currently watching late-night re-runs of the BBC series The Planets. 8 x 60 minute episodes will put me about as well ahead as I'm likely to get during the course of the year. :hehe:

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

A David Attenborough mega-box set could put me in pole position then ... :eddy:
