Watched A History of Violence last night. Good lord. Why is it so difficult to make a good film these days? And isn't David Cronenberg an experienced director? What the fuck? Interesting premise, lousy fucking script, cringe-worthy dialogue, and poor performances despite some good cast members. I think they were embarrassed to say their lines, actually
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Crumb. A documentary about underground comics artist Robert Crumb. Fucking hilarious
But sad and disturbing too. This is not a normal man, nor a normal family. Fascinating character study.

As to the OP, anyone else think there has been a serious shortage of good movies out in the last year or so? Some awful dross been around.

Longer than that even. Or I'm just becoming very jaded. But it seems to me that good films are few and far between. And I'm talking just good film, nevermind great films.Rum wrote:

The Rabbit Hole. Great acting by both Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. Deals with tragedy from the perspective of a non-believer, so it touched home for me. A bit of a tear-jerker.

... ..... .. Wha.... I don't know what to say. I mean, what does one say about a movie called Sharktopus? It made no sense at all. The sheer neglect of any type of biological science, the shoddy editing, the ropey dialogue, the Sponge Bob like score... the apparent ambiguity over death. The movie is a complete fuck up from start to finish.
To give you an example, the sharktopus grabs a guy painting the side of a boat and the guy shouts, "NO! NOT LIKE THIS!"
Another scene we see a blonde woman in a bikini with a metal detector. This apparently dirty aul man sees her and walks up behind her, what he intended to do is unsure, but she gets a hit with the detector and digs out a coin. She's looking at it all chuffed with her self when some tentacles fly out of the water and grab her into the sea. The aul coot just sort of looks, like, that's interesting. He then notices she dropped the coin so he picks it up. Bites it with his teeth to check if it was solid and then drops it into his shirt pocked and walks off chuffed to bits.
I'm not sure if it was supposed to be funny or if they were deliberately trying my patience.
And what Eric Roberts was doing in all this I don't have a clue.

It's a SyFy original movie, IIRC. SyFy - makers of some of the most awful B movies ever made.Jynx wrote:... ..... .. Wha.... I don't know what to say. SyFy is good for when Chiller doesn't have anything cheesey enough.Ayaan wrote:It's a SyFy original movie, IIRC. SyFy - makers of some of the most awful B movies ever made.I don't know even if shows like Eureka make up for it.

Watched Machete the other night. Great stuff. Every time you think it can't get any sillier it does
