If I do come across it I find its usually because the yoof of today are rude and obnoxious and are so far removed from the older generation/elderly in society that they have no idea some of us are intelligent and possess manners. Older people also seem surprised that I'm polite, particularly when I've got my children with me - and more so in my late teens when my youngest was tiny, they probably thought I was some young chavvy mother. When one of my girls was still in a buggy I was in the supermarket doorway grabbing a basket and there was an elderly man beside me, I picked up a basket and passed it to him over the buggy, I think he thought I was swinging it for his head, he actually flinched. A woman on crutches got on the bus the other day and I gave her my seat, she looked reluctant to take it and said thankyou 3 or 4 times
