There are several, but the most currently popular one is F.A. Mitchell-Hedges.FedUpWithFaith wrote:Is it my turn by the way?
If so here's my question. Who was the ironic model for Indiana Jones?

Depending on what sources you read their were others but Rahn was the closest model. But just in case that's why I added the word "ironic" since Rahn worked with the SS/Nazis. Boo-hiss. There is a fascinating story and mystery surrounding him - well worth a read.
Good job pawiz - your turn.

What was the most common surname in England in the year 1000?
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Did they have surnames then? I thought the French brought that along with William the Conqueror.

After i posted i looked it up cause you had me so confused. I found a source that indicates there were a few English surnames before 1066 - even before 1000, but no list. They did give an example of one I can't remember - not a common name today.
OK, shit. I don't have a question ready. Well, I was watching a show on the History Channel a week or so ago about how they tried to steal Lincoln's body. Anybody remember how many times they moved and/or reburied it after the theft attempt? How about the year it finally came to rest?
I never even knew about it until i saw that show. Weird. What a great country.

Only one that jumps out as WWII related is Seraph, it was a British ship during the war.Gawdzilla wrote:New question.
What forum member shares a name with a very important part of the invasion of France? (If you get this one in a single day I'll be very impressed.)

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
