Eclipses
Eclipses
A total lunar one is coming up on December 21st, isn't this exciting? Alas, we won't see much of it in Europe.

Wish I had a camera that could take pictures of it.
My nighttime shots have never turned out well.

Re: Eclipses
I'll be photographing it. If you're in UK then on January fourth the Sun will partially eclipsed.

Re: Eclipses
If you have a camera that can be set manually, photographing the moon is pretty much the simplest thing there is: it's by far the brightest thing in your field of vision, so you don't have to worry about overexposing your film. It's effectively at an infinite distance, so the film should be exactly at the focal point of your lense. If you use a tripod and a film that isn't too sensitive, you could probably use a small diafragm and an exposure time of about a minute.Bella Fortuna wrote:Wish I had a camera that could take pictures of it.

With an ecplipse, the moon isn't nearly as bright, so you'd want a more sensitive film. 1600 or 3200 ASA should do it. Open the shutter as soon as the eclipse is complete, and shut it just before it ends. I expect you'll see a lot of stars in the photograph that you didn't see in real life, but I don't think that'll ruin the picture.

Bella, I think that camera has a "bracket" setting. Check the manual.

An eclipse on the Solstice? Best we keep away from over-excited pagans.... unless they want sex.
