You can't see my house from the road, and google couldn't get through the gate if they wanted. So I don't even have to opt out of the street view. You can see my mess from the satellite view though

How much of a moron would you need to be to imagine that the image of your house is somehow private to you?
If you can take a picture from a public road, it's not private. Anybody can see it. It's in the public domain.
If you want nobody to see where you live, it's up to you to hide it.
I can't see why google gave people the choice to opt out. But as they did, they have the right, so egging their houses is also moronic.
