You might as well compare Tolkein and Pratchett, or Beethoven and Bob Dylan.
Just offering my two cents re: shows that have a serious plot... They get tainted by the fact that I don't care for the other cheaper ways of pulling at people's strings and getting their attention... Now comedies are an entirely different matter, but yeah, that's why I mentioned it in the first place ;P
Whatever floats yer boat, I guess

Dexter
doesn't have a serious plot. I mean, come on, the premise is pretty far-fetched to begin with - and then when you investigate the details of some of the plotlines...
The Wire was intended to be serious and realistic. Dexter is
escapism that addresses serious issues every now and then but is under no obligation to present them in a realistic manner. There is plenty of room to appreciate both.

Not serious as in being a genuine exploration of certain things, but being that it's not about putting a grin on your face... maybe I should've specified. Anyway, I guess I'm just a picky viewer, seeing as I get more annoyed than amused when watching Dexter ;P

If Dexter doesn't put a grin on your face, you really aren't getting it! His little voice-overs and double entendres crack me up all the time. The mix of domestic drama, police procedure, thriller and black comedy is what makes the show. Although these elements are probably better combined in Breaking Bad - which EVERYONE ought to watch.

Well obviously you wouldn't want to be a party to piracy, so I have nothing...

Ok, don´t you have one of those hard drives that you can connect to the tv? Everybody has that here
Come to think of it Ghat uses the Icelandic word for it so maybe it´s just not as popular there as it is here

Now I've started. I'm often a year or five behind the times.
Seaon 1 was great. Halway through Season 2 now.
The missus and I are addicted.

Me and my neighbour love Doakes.. I can't recall if he actually ever says the line but we used to say every time we saw him "I'm gonna get you motherfucker"... hahah!
