Move over Google?

Post by Rum » Sun Oct 17, 2010 8:42 am

Google seems to be taking over the world. And I find myself becoming a little apprehensive about what amounts to their censorship, even if on a relatively minor scale, after listening to a program on the radio yesterday where a spokesperson was talking about how they order their search outcomes. For example following a couple of high profile on line suicides they made is much harder to get a decent result without multiple clicks to find 'how to commit suicide' apparently (just on example).

It is fashionable to knock Microsoft but I d'loaded Bing the other day, despite the silly name. Personally I love it and would recommend it. I think the maps, though not as wide a coverage as Google, are in my view better (3D Maps are great!) and the searches 'feel' different. Google has too big a share of things for any serious rival to make much headway I suspect, but they have become all powerful in my view and that can't be good.

End of rant anyway. Sticking with Bing for a bit!

I'm underwhelmed by Google's attitude about what they say people want. I started this thread (http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 37&start=0), and the forum I linked to shows a lot of others a peeved with the latest innovation. A lot of people have changed to Bing.

Google has the money to throw around and mess around with, I read a recent article yesterday on how they're developing oceanic-based wind generators.
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

Yep. Its just a web search engine and start page (if you want it to be). Not a client.
