Ryder Cup 2010

Post by Elessarina » Fri Oct 01, 2010 7:21 am

The Ryder Cup is my favourite golf competition, I love it. Unfortunately it is on Sky but I shall be keeping my eye on it today and hopefully will get to see some of it at some point over the weekend.

It's the only golf I will tolerate. I'm only watching it if the British Empire looks like winning, mind

The Ryder Cup is fucking brilliant because...

But not any more!

Thank you rich, middle class people for not carrying cash!

I love it.. great competition.. golf is fun, I enjoy playing the odd bit of pitch and putt - I can't play a full sized course.. if I did it would take me about 3 days I think

Rain, rain, rain ... play suspended for the time being, perhaps for a few hours. No chance it would seem of getting today's play completed as scheduled. :levi:

The first Ryder Cup I watched was back in 1985 ... ah the nostalgia. I was waiting to start college. :ddpan:

Of course, ever since Murdoch got his hands on it, it's not been quite the same. :irate:

Hmmm ... "Big John" Paramour (as Peter Alliss calls him) has just had this to say:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/golf/9041112.stm
Chief Ryder Cup referee John Paramor on BBC Radio 5 live: "Being matchplay, we leave a lot up to the players themselves. They were continuing but it got to such a stage where even with all the resources we have here it was just too much. We were fighting an uphill battle. We were hoping for a break in the weather, it was there for a few minutes, but unfortunately those lovely breaks filled in and it's turned out to be pretty strong rain again. It's a very strong storm system that is affecting us and it can change but we are looking at early afternoon to start again. That is the indication. We will be looking at possibly playing on Sunday morning now and we have the ability to go to Monday but hopefully the weather will improve and we can get going again."
A Monday finish to the Ryder Cup? :nono:

BBC tweet: "Just be (sic) told that at least 15 mm of rain has fallen in the last 6 hours"

That's a considerable amount of rain, although I've known much worse. :coffee:

Anyway, once play resumes, I can listen to it on BBC radio over the web ... even here at work. Just like I do with the cricket. A pair of earphones, and no-one is any the wiser as to what you're doing.

I live not far from where it's held and I can confirm that it's pissing down here.

I just saw some "coverage" on Sky during my coffee break, and yes, it is fairly bucketing down. :what?:

it also said there'll be an "announcement" at 12. Which means play is highly unlikely to restart before lunchtime. :ddpan:

Now the BBC are saying:

"There is an announcement due at 1300 BST ..."
