I miss the old style turn based RPGs, Chrono Trigger was excellent, I only ever played it on an emulator for the PC but really enjoyed it. I'd like to see something like Shining Force III or Suikoden get a release but with the current trend away from trun based to real time combat I doubt they'd be as good.

I don't think I did, though I'm not sure. Was there a part in it where your character gets stranded at sea for weeks and it actually makes you sit through the events of each day on your tiny raft?

That one is by far the best in the series, great mix of plot and strategy for the battle system. Shame they can't seem to get it right any more and everything is so plain and dull now. The life like ones don't interest me as much as the the cartoonish ones.

Bah. Six had a better plot, but Seven had the better battle System.
12, in terms of gameplay, was actually the best out of the series. I was hesitant about the Gambit system and then I realised that, essentially, it just allowed you to avoid having to button mash every battle.

Re: What are you playing now?
Thank you, Squidward.
It never occurred to me to give Hope more than one magic accessory. I only gave him one, and he also has a health boosting bangle, and some other thing that casts Shell and a bunch of other shit when his HP gets low. My thinking was that I wanted to keep him in good health, didn't want to lose him, because he's a valuable healer.
I tried something different last night. I used rav/com/rav (Relentless Assault) as usual until an enemy was staggered. And then I immediately switched to com/com/com. It made short work of most enemies.
Some enemies are still too tough. If I don't stagger them quickly, I'm fucked. Those dragons are merciless with Sunder. Lightening and Fang can indeed launch the enemy. That's why I'm perplexed when I stagger the fucker, he's not launched up, and he just stands there casually renewing his goddamn HP as if staggering doesn't bother him in the slightest
Yeah, now that you mention it, I do remember the characters shitting their pants when first coming across one of those dinosaurs. Just pisses me off not being able to even come close to beating an enemy I have access to. I even gave Lightening some bracelet that absorbs Earth damage as HP, but it didn't do much good.
I'm wondering if I should keep it or sell it. I sell most things I pick up in order to upgrade the things I do keep, since money is very hard to come by in this game, and upgrading anything fucking takes forever. I think I did get that Survivalist Catalogue. Sounds familiar. But I sold it because it was worth a lot of money. And I didn't have any accessory slots to use the goddamn thing anyway
There were a ton of shrouds earlier in the game. Now there ain't shit
The fuck? I went to all the trouble to open up this gate into their area, and I can't ride the motherfucking chocobos yet?!
Libra. Yes, I'm confused about that. I do use it. But do I have to use it every time I battle any enemy? Or, once I use it on a particular type of enemy, does the game then remember that enemy's weakness?

Re: What are you playing now?
You only need to use it once per enemy and you'll get the basic info, you can use a second one to reveal more or you can just fight normally and everytime it uses a move you'll add that to your beastiary. After you've got the info once it'll be remembered for future fights against that enemy but any variations (like enemies that look the same but are a differnt colour) will need scanned.
I take it you don't care about trophies? There's a missable one called "treasure hunter" that requires you to have every accessory in the game which means you need to upgrade certain items to posses other ones.
I'm up past my bed time for now though, I'll write more tomorrow. Is it worth starting a seperate thread about FFXIII so that we don't over run this one?

ive noticed the sonic games have gotten notably difficult since the sega genesis days. the 3d controls are kind of finicky.

Ah, jolly good. I don't like to use Libra if I don't have to. It wastes time. Or at least, it gives the enemy a chance to strike first while I'm fucking around. The Curious Squid wrote:You only need to use it once per enemy and you'll get the basic info, you can use a second one to reveal more or you can just fight normally and everytime it uses a move you'll add that to your beastiary. I'm kind of a completionist, and yet I don't give two shits about trophies. They serve no practical purpose as far as I can tell. They seem pointless.
I defeated some mark and saved a chocobo in the process. Now I can ride them

Strange about these marks, though. The gigantic cactus is a grade B enemy. It kills me with one hit (or at least it did last time I tried it). But then I fought this other level B enemy, some robot standing in a field, and I killed him within seconds

I can now survive several stomps from those fucking dinosaurs. I'm soooo close to staggering them. Just one hit away. But I'm always so low on health that the few times I actually did manage to stagger one, it kills me right after. So I had the bright idea of using my Summon. Except those Summons seem kinda useless. They should, like, totally kick ass. Except they don't. One good thing about using one is that all party members come back to life at full health after it's over. But the goddamn chain gauge goes back down to zero

I found a hidden area with my chocobo. There was a biiiiiiig enemy in there
