Altough that might have its benefits, it would almost certainly have a downside. A quick withdrawal would probably lead to the current corrupt and ineffective Afghan government folding, leaving a Taliban government (whether in fact, or in behind-the-scenes power). The Islamic militant world would be boosted, sensing blood in the water...

Not certain it's a legal requirement, but I suspect an avowedly atheist candidate for any office might be dead in the water...
