I've always complained school sucks because they don't teach right. Textbooks are doll, all due respect-- they're mostly good for when you don't have access online or when looking for something specific.

Thinkwell (and to a lesser degree Khan Academy--which is at least free) proves me right. Think about the billions of dollars going around the world for teachers saying the same old thing. I've always wondered, what if we simply used an extremely well-recorded lecture with an entertaining teacher-host with detailed text on the side taking notes?

Done. Using Thinkwell is almost like cheating because it's really using the best possible technology (video+text) with the best possible teachers to teach. I just discovered it in the last couple of days, and finally registered in the last 3 hours. For about 2-3 weeks I've been using Khan Academy which is free as mentioned, but Thinkwell really took it on a commercial level and really professional level and you really get what you pay for. It's not cheap, but it's damn worth it. All the hosts are entertaining, except from the chemistry ones who are somewhat more monotone than the rest.

The math teacher is hilarious. He used to write jokes for Jay Leno, but he's no joker with some math notes and a teleprompter-- he has a PhD in Math and you can tell he's a bright guy and explains things neatly. Thinkwell does a great job covering all the topics one needs before going into really advance sort of studies. You can view previews of them.

I just registered for Biology, Pre-Calculus, and Chemistry myself.

I watched science clips from 3:00 AM (woke up early) till now 10:00 AM. This is really cool and interesting. I almost know enough math to complete 3 high-school units! Finally understand how to compute chemical titrations as well.

Videos don't work with younger students to show them how to do practical science...

It is the personal interaction that makes science come alive in earlier years. Mature age students may well find science teaching sites on line a useful resource, but it can never replace hands-on experiments and prac work, which needs a real person in a real lab...

Just think of me as a slightly nicer version of Snape, taking potions classes...

By checking exams all day. So we no longer need "teachers", just "exam testers". Wouldn't it be easier for you if instead of annoying young-adults it'll be just you, a piece of paper, and a red pen?

Although truth is a RL guide and class interaction is still very significant and helps preserve and uplift motivation, and perhaps more vividly understand some concepts. Indie studies online are just an extra tool, a very useful tool, but not a replacement to the whole system.

that is all you'll really need for elementary chemical titrations, that said my biochemistry lecturer during my final year at Uni was terrible...
She calculated the amount of solute needed to make 250 ml of the solution of a fixed normality , then used 100ml of the solvent instead of 250 ml... the weight of the solute in the solution was more than twice what was required for a 100 ml solution, as a result the end point in the burette went out of range...

I successfully teach and do titrations with my year 10 students (around 15); they get both the theory and the practice, and can express concentrations both as % and molarity. It culminates in calculating the % of acetic acid in vinegar...
