Because the pseudo middle class (class ffs) never have any taste they just ape the taste of others who they see as thier betters . That's why they spend so much time visting stately homes in the hope that some taste and 'class' will rub off on them .They can't just have mates round for a meal it has to be a 'dinner party' , some sad suburban parody of a banquet they could never afford to host all safe and secure behind fake leaded windows with friends who think just like them .

When I went round to yours for dinner, you had a chef cook it.

Doesn't CCTV make people feel better/safer? I've been in situations where I've been going to see a client, say (let's not say), and the fact that there is CCTV around made me feel more secure.

I recently saw some yobbos (yes they were), eyeing up the back of a shop. They were actually looking at the outside tap, which was brass, probably with the intention of taking it to weigh in for scrap - there has been a flood of such crimes thereabouts recently, and it's worth the effort - but they looked up, saw a camera, and moved on. Works.

It's also increased the wearing of the hoody, though.

So the massive increase in CCTV has ushered in a new massive reduction in crime .... NOT and not even in areas that have CCTV shops still get lifted people still get mugged and Drunks still want a fight every Friday and Sat night .

CCTV doesn't do much to reduce crime?

Well, even if it doesn't, it certainly provides video evidence of it. CCTV in public venues isn't an invasion of privacy. It's when it crosses in to private venues that you have a problem.

dunno why people think that cctv is a new phenomenon. it's been deployed in big stores since forever and in recent years all the small shops have them too. bunging them on the street is simply an extension of the surveillance we've all been subject too for many years. the irony is that there are not enough scrutineers to view all the images.

We've created a situation where the only place you now have a right to privacy is inside the walls of your own home. Why is that? Just because it's theoretically possible for an another person to see me as I walk along an empty beach, enjoying a moment of private contemplation, the Government are allowed to film me. Is it right and fair that in order to get privacy you mush rent or buy it?

I'm all for cctv. I like the thought of people getting convicted when they commit a crime. Don't forget for every crime, there is a victim.
As far as privacy goes, you go out in public, it's hardly private. The clue is in the name.
And just out of interest, can anyone actually link to an example where an innocent person was harmed in any way by cctv? Because there are loads of examples of innocent people getting saved from further assault, and of others getting justice, through cctv.

I also like the fact that the Police are now under much more cctv scrutiny. While I have my suspicions as to whether it is always used properly to substantiate complaints, at least the potential is there, and it might make them think twice about what they do.

There are a lot of stupid laws which make this statement untrue. I've yet to hear of a nation which does not include victimless crimes in its penile code. :banghead:
