I've just started watching Dexter

Now I can't stop -I am into Season 2 already. It's a great show and I love the title sequence.

Does anyone else watch it?

I gave the first two seasons a go... after having seen something as top notch as, say, the Wire, these shows are ruined by certain aspects that I just don't buy...

One, Dexter and his gf... the two most boring people on earth... Dexter is mostly so impassionate that he seems to have little or no personality, to me... it just gets my goat... and the girl friend is too perfect.

His sister is on the other end of the "wrong"-spectrum... She's so annoyingly into life that she has to react instantly and emotionally in every situation she's in, she's just irrational and annoying.

IMO.

Great stuff - I loved Michael C. Hall in Six Feet Under, he's even better in Dexter.

I love it. The last season is my favorite since the 1st. I thought I was gonna have a hard time not seeing him as the gay brother from six feet under, but I got into it pretty quickly.

Well Dexter is a psychopath...so yeah...he is dispassionate, and the boring relationship is exactly what he wants because it makes him feel "normal". I don't think she is too perfect at all, she is just a passive and overly-nice mom who want's normalcy and a nice quiet home life which fits perfectly into what Dexter needs.

So, she's an average woman :dono:

But yeah, the Wire is

You know I've struggled with The Wire.. not got beyond episode 5... :-s

As for boring people.. some people do like that - from Rita's perspective (and mine) if you have been with an absuive man someone "boring" is just what you are looking for. From Dexter's point of view Rita is a permanent alibi of sorts ( to make him appear "normal")

Well, I don't mean perfect in the sense of her being just the kinda girl I want ;P and we get less of the moms who come across as that over here, so maybe that's why that's how I describe her. At any rate she bores the shit out of me.

No, no no no, no... She's either overreacting, over-acting or both, and she annoys the shit out of me... She's like Janice in the Sopranos, 'cept she's more of a prime time character, so no weird sex scenes and easier on the eyes... damn... what a weird way to flip that ;P

Seriously, give it another go... The Wire is very much aimed at those who are willing to let a story develop organically... It's hard the first time around, but so many storylines that start in the first season aren't completed until much later in the series... It took me a LOT of effort, because I didn't see the pay-off right from the get-go, but no show has rewarded me as much as the Wire... And for a reference I'll tell you that my first suspicions of the Wire possibly being the best show I've ever seen started creeping up on me towards the end of the second season... That's when I got what kind of story it was going to be.

I guess I'm in no place to relate, though that's not why I watch shows about serial killers and such... that's usually to irk me, to see a different frame of mind... and then this show threw a load of blandness at me. I'll agree that there were some storylines that really intrigued me...
Trigger Warning!!!1! :
like when he locked up that black dude... his name escapes me... out in the swamps or whatever
But yeah, I'm one of the few who don't seem to like Dexter as much as the rest, so I'm not the one who's meant to post in this 'un :)

Yes. Except I seem to have totally missed season 3 and now season 4 is on. DON'T Google any info about the episodes, or it'll be totally ruined for you.

Comparing Dexter to The Wire is pretty silly. They are different styles of show entirely. There is plenty of room for them both to be brilliant!

You might as well compare Tolkein and Pratchett, or Beethoven and Bob Dylan.

Just offering my two cents re: shows that have a serious plot... They get tainted by the fact that I don't care for the other cheaper ways of pulling at people's strings and getting their attention... Now comedies are an entirely different matter, but yeah, that's why I mentioned it in the first place ;P

Whatever floats yer boat, I guess :)

I use to watch Dexter but I didn't watch the second to last season then found out they killed off one of my favorite characters so I don't watch it any more.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

I got bored after it got repetitive.

See, House is repetitive, but it has House.
Dexter doesn't have the character to make the repetitive story interesting.

I've been meaning to watch Dexter for about a year. People keep telling me it's great, but I just haven't managed to watch it yet.
