What's this trolley-tracking people are talking about?

Getting fixated on a player (at least, that's what I think it means).

You're a good player, feral

trolley-tracking just means that you get one theory in your head and you follow that theory so closely that you don't see the bigger picture happening around you, and don't make course adjustments.

I was able to pull my head out of the track for a while, but every time Twinkie did anything that confirmed my initial theory I snapped right back to it.

Mostly, I think it's due to our not having played together very often. We know each other more by reputation than by actual familiarity with each other's play.

And the next time you have a hunch and then change your mind ,it turns out you were right in the first place ..

there is a difference between following a hunch and getting trolley-tracked. when you trolley track, you ignore evidence that you are wrong, and latch on to evidence that you are right. I was ignoring evidence that Twinkie was almost certainly the doctor in this game.

I think she was ignoring evidence that I was vanilla town, but she'd be a better judge of whether that was the problem, or if I really was coming off extremely scummy.

At TR, I went through a very long spell of getting night killed on night 1 or 2 after I had played a few games because I had a good scumdar for such a new player. So, I spent a lot of games honing my scumdar into a super-sensitive day 1 scum hunting machine. I don't always find scum on day 1, but I do it often enough that I usually get the person I sniff out on day 1 lynched whether they are scum or not. If I don't get a good read on scum on day 1, I make that clear, and I follow someone else's hunch instead. In the environment where I usually play, people know this about me. I can game it a little when I am scum, but I do so at the risk of my town game.

My guess is that being such an unknown quantity at ratz still, the simpler explanation was that I already knew Budski (and DennyB) were scum and I was bussing them.

My major mistakes were trolley-tracking on oblivion (for simply remaining alive, and also for not lining up two scums for lynching on day 1 and day 2... yes, I think she's superwoman :hehe: ) and then not understanding the vanilla town handshake thing. Being a special, I just didn't know what the vanilla PM looked like, so I assumed it was an elaborate ruse by oblivion.

I'm still learning

On day 1, MZ and Ani both set off alarms. Then you started "clearing" people as I commented on them, and that pulled my attention to you. I thought you were whiteknighting them to set them up as town buddies for later. On day 2, I almost suggested we lynch Denny or FP after you outed, but decided my judgement had been so far off, maybe I should sit back and watch for a while before going off on someone again.

We need to learn to read each other.

I'll say it again, having Oblivion in the game so long was a great learning experience.
The same goes for Irre and Ani. I've learned heaps about your games and hopefully will be a better team mate as well as adversory in the future.
I guarantee I won't be using this strategy again any time soon. Or may be ever.

That any player, no matter how good, can be enticed into keeping on the wrong path.
That keeping experienced players in the game draws suspicion. Although I knew this, it was interesting to watch it unfold.
That no matter the obviousness of the information provided by players - eg I am the seer, people will still not believe if they hold a deep down mistrust.
That posting less often is more.
Wall of text thought dumps are a good sign of townness. (And therefore should be used by scum.)

This game hinged on my bussing Bud. That clouded everything - which is bloody well how it should be.
I didn't do anything much after that except play a quietly town game and watch the rest unfold. Denny never really got a chance to establish himself. He was severely hampered.
Bud would have been a great asset and it is probable that we could have won had I kept her. Ironic! But I've wanted to try a high risk strategy like this and I enjoyed doing it.

I'll think about it more when I review the threads.

Yes - experienced players still in the game is by definition suspicious. But less so with every use of that ploy.

There's a vacuum at the center of most games. Anyone who really wants it can probably fill that vacuum.
