Liberal garbage...

Post by Dory » Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:55 am

I hate my textbook. It's liberal garbage, talking about human conservation efforts, saving the rainforests, how we're destroying our planet and how human sucks and animals rule. In my opinion watching this planet go up in smoke (such as the clip in Rum's topic) would be a pretty cool way to die than deathbed. Moreover the teacher is planning us all to watch an inconvenient truth!!! Which, mind you, I find very inconvenient. This is bullshit man! How can I get away from it?

It seems self-defeating to take a stance in favor of ethical egoism, and then pay someone to instruct you.

There's no choice, the liberal (sodomites) professors made it forced-reading in biology material. If I wanna past the test, I have to accept liberal ideas.

Firstly, they aren't liberal, simply true in most respects and secondly, everyone has to take on ideas they don't necessarily agree with to get through exams and tests etc. Part of life is doing things other people want you to even when you don't. But of course that isn't an idea you have really got to grips with - I understand that. :hehe:

Bull. You just have to repeat the material back to him/her/it. I've taken classes that I devoutly disagreed with, then lied like a rug on the tests and got a good grade.

All the animals are selfish. Once we are gone...may take a while for the smoke to clear, the animals will dance and sing. Not missing us one bit. Yea!

Anybody wanting to study biology should be lamenting the fact that we're erasing the huge archives of diversity as produced in nature (the only life the universe has yielded, to our knowledge), the intricacies and the nifty solutions proffered by evolution... Why on earth wouldn't a biology student want steps to be taken to limit our negative impact?

Just assuming that there was a nugget of truth to Dory's libtard references ;P

My psychology instructor was rather into woo. To his credit, on tests he only asked questions about what was in the textbook. However, he would give us woo-filled articles to write papers on. I would find the one or two points that I could agree with, focus on those, and then add a few lines about what I disagreed with - I always got an A+ on my papers.

Edit: Getting an education will expose you to ideas you don't like, but look at it as an opportunity to learn more about them - you may find yourself changing your mind in the face of new evidence or learning more about your own.

Always get to know the enemy. You can't argue your side of the story effectively until you are familiar with your opponent's position. Sometimes you'll find that you are in the wrong too.... This convoluted process is called unbiased learning. It can take a while to come to terms with it.

We have yet to approach a tiny fraction of the damage done in the Oxygen Catastrophe three billion years ago. Life evolves. Life pollutes. Life that can live with the new sort of garbage survives, evolves, and- usually- results in an even more diverse and robust ecology than the one which preceded it.

The question isn't whether we're wrecking the Earth. We're not. The question is: Are we wrecking the Earth as we need it to be for our own survival? The answer, so far, appears to be a resounding "yes." But I may be wrong. We don't really know how resilient humans can be.

But do we really want to be that resilient, even if we can pull it off?
