I think it could happen.

All that is needed is to make sure everyone has the capacity to make everyone else know that attacking them is not going to be worth their while.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

That's what the Cold War did - and MAD (mutually assured destruction). It may well have stopped a nuclear war, but millions (including myself) lived in fear a lot of the time. It was horrible. But maybe that's the price ...

What went wrong was that some of the smaller nations did not have the means to avoid being pawns of the two big powers. The US and the USSR managed to avoid killing everyone, but we did manage to fuck up a few smaller nations, with effects that we all still live with.

I think it could happen. Cooperation would benefit us all. Education is the way forward I think - and we've never before had the kind of educational opportunities we have now. Violence has been decreasing throughout history, anti-war movements have grown a lot over the last century. Religion, capitalism, and nationalism would all have to go first - but I think we are heading in the right direction.

I'm not completely optimistic, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to fuck things up in the next century - but I think it's possible.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

It could happen. With the globe more and more interconnected, the chances of everyone in the world being involved in the same war - or in the same peace - at the same time increase.

That's what you meant, right, a moment where there aren't any wars on the world, not the banishment of war forever, right?

I guarantee there will be peace on Earth someday... in those blissful millenia between the time the sun's expansion exterminates all life here and the time our little orb is swallowed up. Until then, not so much.

But let's keep trying anyway.

Life is a struggle. If it were all peaceful we would be dead. The peace that people need to look for is within themselves. They need to stop beating themselves up, arguing with themselves, wondering who the real enemy is. And then get on with it. But you have to do your own work here - it never works to follow someone else's solution. You might be inspired by others, but the work is all yours.

Wankity wank.

I assure you, when there are no living things left on Earth we will have world peace.

Is there peace on Mars? Peace is an evaluation. Without cognitive life there's no evaluation, no 'world', no 'peace'. If/When there are no living things left on Earth, Earth will just ... be.

Precisely. I can think of no better definition of peace than the complete and utter absence life.
Life is, at least on this Earth, by its very nature Chaotic, competitive. Even on the abstract level we may get rid of war, but we will never have peace, as there will always be someone who "knows better".
