I'm glad there are people who are reasonable despite their beliefs. Especially since their beliefs make being reasonable more challenging for everyone. I'm not singling out muslims. There's nothing I say about muslims that I wouldn't say about Christians. Legal stoning seems a bit excessive. But more to the point is that I think based on my limited observation that Islamic countries are behind the first world due largely to the form of governments that they use which are blatantly based on Islamic faith. I'm willing to believe that they do not have the only interpretation of Islam, but if having a faith was properly meaningless, then citizens could properly break apart the components of the Quran and take the good parts and recodify only those into something greater if they find they must acknowledge their cultural history.

Not likely. For starters, the beliefs and the governments are entrenched. Secondly, I feel like a large number of citizens play by the rules as opposed to revolting until the rules are "right". This creates inertia. Lastly, the most oppressed classes such as women, gays, and atheists (and there may be others) are universally oppressed. Don't we have cases in the U.S. and Canada of Muslim fathers killing their daughters because the daughter had sex? Those are things that are even more heavily entrenched. When people will feel right killing you for acting wrong, that's a big disincentive to bucking the system. And when those people are your closest kin, I imagine the children involved probably feel like they did something to deserve it. That's going to take a lot of counseling to fix.
