The spit is the ultimate WWII aircraft design classic. But when it comes to bombers, you have to go a way to beat this baby. There's an old guy drinks in my local that has only ever flown twice in his life, and it was in one of these, sitting looking at the ground through the open bomb-bay doors during a wartime test-flight. He spent the war building them too.

I'm not that keen on commercial airliners, but the De Havilland Comet was a thing of beauty. Too bad the Comet had a serious flaw and had to be taken out of service after several catastrophic crashes.

There are plenty still in service, and with turboprop engines, some are almost certainly going to survive until 2035, meaning the DC-3 will have seen 100 years service. :shock:
