The lovely, lovely BFI is showing My Night At Maud's at the moment. It confirms whatever cliche you might have heard about masturbatory French pseudo-intellectualism but it's really brilliant.

We have that on our Netflix queue. I should bump it up? (Actually, it's on instant view, so we don't have to wait. :ht: )
*shrug*

I enjoyed it. It's up to you.

masturbatory French pseudo-intellectualism
Nice summing up. I had to sit through 90-some minutes of a guy free-associating in a car once. The camera was clamped down so it never left him, and the scenery going past the window induced nausea in several people in the class.

Well if you liked that you might want to try Abbas Kiarostami's FIVE. I had the pleasure once, there's about 40 minutes of a floating log.

If I want to look at something beautiful, I'll open a packet of cheese.

Besides Carry on Up the Khyber has Sid James and so wins automatically.

Okay, but it goes in the queue right after poking myself in the eye with a sharp stick.

Nothing to forgive.

Was quite a good film.
Not brilliant, but good.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Yesterday I watched Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, unrated version. I thought it was a wonderful film, and a great role for Tom Cruise, as well as his (then?) wife Nicole Kidman. I think I need to check out more of Kubrick's stuff. I'll get The Shining next. I've never actually seen it, only bits and pieces. I also got Vanilla Sky because, despite being insane, I think Tom Cruise can be quite a good actor when given the chance, and I want to check out some of his more substantial roles. Haven't watched it yet, though.
Today I watched The Invention of Lying. It was funny and sweet, and I cried at the end. Can't ask for much more than that, really.

Has one of my favourite lines in it
Little Bill Daggett: It's been a long time, Bob. You run out of Chinamen?
English Bob: Little Bill, well I thought you was, well I thought that you were dead. I see you've shaved your chin whiskers off.
Little Bill Daggett: I was tasting the soup two hours after I ate it.
English Bob: Well, actually, what I heard was that you fell off your horse, drunk of course, and that you broke your bloody neck.
Little Bill Daggett: I heard that one myself, Bob. Hell, I even thought I was dead 'til I found out it was just that I was in Nebraska.

Our great war is a spiritual war.
Our great depression is our lives.

Just now saw Polanski's new baby, The Ghostwriter. Frankly, I'd have expected a deeper story of Polanski than that: in the end we get to know who the capital spy is, not the main suspect but his wife. Ewan McGregor is a great actor though, totally outshines Pierce Brosnan.
