Why stop there? Isn't there a thread somewhere in the News, Current Events & Politics section that deals with the exact same topic, sabre rattling by the North Korean government?FBM wrote:Merginification of two threads on the same topic...by the same person.

Re: War time
A few, I think. But this is specifically about NK's recent nuclear threat (and both were started by Lozzer). It's not quite the random, erratic sabre-rattling that comes out of Pyongyang whenever Little Kimmy needs attention. The naval drills that this was in response to start tomorrow, so we'll soon see if the nukes actually start raining down. If the other mods think they need to be merged, I don't have a problem with it, though.Seraph wrote:Why stop there? Don't worry, Australia can probably scrape together an infantry company to send over, possibly with an attached platoon of sheep shaggers New Zealanders...

Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?

Could you camcorder your face and put it on a live feed? - it could be really cool, like the Nazis melting at the end of Indiana Jones.FBM wrote:Lozzer wrote:FBM wrote:Ian wrote:FBM wrote:I'll post dust.
Most likely...
I hope you're ok
I'm about 85~90km away from Seoul, which would most likely be ground zero. Not sure if I could get a decent shot of the mushroom cloud from here. Maybe if I go up to the roof...

Cool. Let's just try not to repeat that Gallipoli thing again, eh? Unless it's with the Kiwis, that is.JimC wrote:Don't worry, Australia can probably scrape together an infantry company to send over, possibly with an attached platoon of sheep shaggers New Zealanders...

Seriously - I would get the fuck out of there if I was you. But that's just me. If I was on the Titanic I would have slipped in to some comfy pantyhose and a pink skirt to get in to a lifebaot without any hesitation.

Seriously, it's too early to run, and I doubt there'll be time to run once the buttons are pushed. I'm stuck, I reckon. Qué será será. Who knows, I might even survive and have some very cool pics to show.

Re: War time/NK's "sacred war" threat...merge
What are the chances that NK follows through with its threats? China seems concerned enough to warn agaisnt the military exercise by the US and SK, so it merits my panic. I can't imagine NK lasting long in a conflict with one of the big boys, so it may get interesting.

Re: War time/NK's "sacred war" threat...merge
China didn't like the idea of a major exercise in the Yellow Sea. They're not griping about it happening in the Sea of Japan. When part 2 of the exercises continues in the Yellow Sea (if it does), it probably won't include the USS George Washington.Lozzer wrote:What are the chances that NK follows through with its threats? This is a very volatile time, politically. Kim Jong-Il is not too healthy. He's probably involving his heir apparent (Kim Jong-Un) in international crises, including ones instigated by the North such as the Cheonan sinking, as a means to establish his bona fides as a leader, just like it was done with him in the late 1960s and the 1970s. It doesn't mean this is all going to blow up into a war, but nothing about North Korea can really be predicted with any certainty.
I think it's very likely that China is merely waiting until Kim Jong-Il croaks. Then they're going to forcibly do some major overhauls in Pyongyang before the next Kim can really assert himself. The 21st century China is not the radical Maoist state that came to Pyongyang's aid in 1950. Not only is modern China getting really sick of being patron to the world's #1 Jackass State, they probably realize that the economic benefits of a unified Korea, or at least an economically and politically normal North Korea, would benefit Beijing much more than continuing to maintain the status quo. In my opinion.

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
