We go for a pensioner meal in the restaurant at this place. Fish and chips, bread and butter, pot of tea and ice cream only a fiver. The fish and chips are top class.

No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

We always called them batter bits. :dono:
Yeah - that sounds nearer. Stupid thing is I can remember telling someone recently and I knew then - I'm getting some fucked up word finding disorder!

In my village!!
We only has Chinese or fish and chips with the rare option of dominos pizza from the neighbouring place!

Friday and Saturdays the chippy is packed and makes a killing. Usually due to people being pressed against the glass!

Long live the village traditions 8-)
Ratz it's more addictive than facebook and more fun than crack!

Rum wrote:'Scraps and six penneth of chips' I used to hear as a kid home from Hong Kong. The scraps were free..or maybe a penny, and 'six penneth' - sixpence was the equivalent of 5P for a massive bag.
Yeah, but those were Chinese potatoes. So an hour later you were . . . Irish again.

" six penneth was the equivalent of 5P" - you must be in New Zealand. Here in the UK, 6d old money is the equiv of 2 and a half Pence new money. ;)

If you have not walked into a British fish and chip shop on a cold winter night and revelled in the smell of frying potatoes and sizzling fish and batter, with the odour of vinegar and damp clothes woven through it, then well..you have not experienced the soul of much the the united Kingdom - north of Birmingham anyway.

Even though it wasn't the best shop in your estimation Rum, I miss eating Fish and Chips in Skipton with you.

In 1969, in Nottingham, they were definitely called scrumps. First time I lived away from home, at Nottingham University, and first time I'd ever heard of them at all.
