frivolous reports

On another forum (not naming any names ) some members report for the most stupidist things. I swear I feel like I"m in kindergarten class.

Do the mods even investigate if the complaint is worthy of complaint? It's so idiotic as to how many people are like fucken babies..ie "if you say that again, I'll report you, na na na".....type of shit.

The worst is when that same member that constantly reports is the one with the most foul mouth in the first place but somehow think they're angels.

Anyone else experience this?

From my short time here as a mod, the vast majority of reports were about splits, derails and moves rather than actual complaints. When people did complain they were thoroughly investigated.

After the RDF lot appears, we got a huge number of reports about "trolling". It seemed like everyone who disagreed with someone else would either report them for trolling or suggest there was some personal attack on their integrity (or some similar shit).

Thankfully, that's died down and now we only get reports on merges/derail plus genuine personal attacks occasionally.

We always try to sort out the personal attack ones asap.

In all the years I've been in different forums I've only reported a person once and that was the one that reported me even though that person was a jerk (in my opinion) and that person insulted me over and over again and when I finally insulted him back, wow momma! holy mother of god! it was the end of the world.

some people like to dish it out in a sleezy way that doesn't really go against the rules but you know they're being a nasty shit head, but they don't like it when it's dished out to them. assholes.

The play nice rule (guideline ,hopeful suggestion ),was instigated here to stop that sort of thing .You can be very nasty to people without actually committing an Ad hom . Some times it happens here, one or two posters are good at it .They are often the ones that shout and scream the loudest when reminded by staff to play nice . I'm glad I'm not a mod I would have little tolerance for people who obey the letter of the rules with the full intent of ignoring the spirit of them .

It just rediculous that anyone that disagrees or doesn't like you, can report any shit and it's taken seriously. In one thread it got so stupid that posters were reporting others for reporting them.

My problem with "that place" is that mods participate in the threads they're modding. And they have no trouble being biased toward one side of an argument. That and the feather-duster mentality put an end to my visits there.

At the risk of getting my head bitten off for venturing into this thread, the above is untrue. Mods don't participate in threads they're moderating (unless there is a severe breach that requires immediate attention like illegal material being), and decisions are made with the support of other mods so even if one mod is biased, it's unlikely that they'll be able to sneak it past the others.

The rules over at the place that shall not be named are obviously stricter than the rules here, but different fora have different aims..

Anyway, I do agree that people hitting the report button for ridiculous reasons is annoying. This is why every claim is investigated thoroughly though, so it's unlikely that someone will get a warning unless they've clearly broken the rules and they only get warnings after multiple reminders of the rules (regardless of how we might feel about the validity of those rules). I'd say over 90% of the reports we get over there are closed without any further action because they're frivolous reports, it's only really the more serious violations of the rules that get warnings.
