Outlandish Uni course idea?

Post by Lozzer » Mon Jul 19, 2010 5:31 pm

I have two or three years to consider and eventually apply for a university course. I'm not rather bothered about the Uni's location, provided it offers me the education I strive for. I've always had my heart set on studying politics, but recently I've been slightly enveloped in Celtic (especially Irish) language, art and history. Politics is my passion, but I'm considering studying a course which incorperates both Celtic studies and politics. I really want to learn Irish, and it would be my first 'modern' learned language (besides English, of course), but I'm not sure if it's in any modules. I've tried to check the UCAS site, but it's beyond me entirely. It's possibly the most non-negotionable website I've ever had the displeasure of having to navigate.

As I understand it, the main Celtic/Irish/politic courses are all located at Northern Ireland Unis and in Liverpool. It's something I really want to delve further in to, but I'm unsure about how far I'd get.

You might find politics and history as a combination and specialise in the Celtic bits that way? Politics and economics is a goody for future career prospects of course.

Go and live in the Gaeltacht and learn it among Irish speakers. I'm sure klr will get you in to Galway University somehow - it's near enough.

Fuck knows why you want to learn Irish though. Everyone I've ever met who speaks it fluently is a dull pain in the arse.

Live? 0_o I couldn't navigate the site, the subtitles are pretty limited. I'll look inton it if Galway provides what I want.

I've never heard it spoken before!
