Technically, it means they can't advertise with topless or nude pics.

Or, make a profit from the nudity of their employees...

Well, technically, prostitutes don't profit from their nudity, it's just the required state of dress for their professional activity.
Nude pics for advertisement purposes, which would draw additional business and profit, that's what's forbidden. In normal mode, the john decide to go up with the lady after seeing her dressed (however immodestly)

and Hooters... mediocre fare boosed by busty and scantily clad waitresses? nothing wrong with it, but not the kind of place where you'd expect Republicans (except when they are borrowing Steele's official credit card, and then it's already know they prefer actual strip clubs).

Have you ever been to Hooters? They have all breast sizes there.

I'm not sure anyone would call this "scantily" clad: image removed by pappa, as it's forcing a password promt to appear. - certainly "clad" - in shorts and a t-shirt.

Nothing wrong, necessarily busty, or scantily clad.

I'd be willing to bet that Republicans go there all the time.

I think the problem there was misuse of funds.

My definition of "scantily clad" matches Robert E Howard's, and by his standards, a tank top and short shorts (I mean, you're seeing thigh there), definitely fits the bill.

I suppose that your definition of "scantily" would be more along the lines of a microkini, but not everybody is that liberal.

Oh, and I may be silly... I forgot that there might be republicans who are not conservative christians, and who might patronize strip joints without committing major hypocrisy... though I'd guess those would be exceedingly rare...
Then again, my expectations for Republicans are exceptionally low given the performance of the president they were founded around, or of all other Gop prezzes after Ike Eisenhower.

Feminists and Republicans?

In the 1980s, freedom of expression was under assault form all sides - Democrats - like Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore - were engaged in a movement to censor rock and roll lyrics. Remember all the Congressional hearings held where guys like Frank Zappa and Dee Snyder testified about rock lyrics? Those were all Democrat led Congressional committee hearings. The end result was the labeling and warning label system, since thankfully they were not able to out-and-out censor words and music.
What republicans opposed the democrats on that issue?
I have no idea. But, why would you mention the Republicans, but not the Democrats, when it was a Democrat led issue? I have no issue with you calling Republicans out on that, but when the movement was led by Democrats one would think they deserved a mention....
I wasn't talking about music lyrics and the PMRC. I was talking about pornography.

Two different issues.

Hooters is so yesterday. Young republicans are now into snorkeling, getting tickled or men's room surfing. :D

The men of the family values party sure know how to have a foot tapping good time.

O.k. - well, I had raised the issue of censorship and rock lyrics and you asked "what republicans opposed the democrats on that issue?"

But, President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Democrat majority Congress appointed a commission to study pornography in 1969, as a result of Supreme Court decision that held that people could view what they wanted in their own homes. The majority of the commission found that there was insufficient evidence that pornography caused delinquent or criminal behavior. The Democrat majority Congress and President Nixon then rejected the majority commission report, and accepted the minority of the commission's report (which advocated restriction of pornography). Reagan, like Johnson, also appointed a commission to study pornography, the Meese commission.

During the 1980s, that was, as you noted, the PMRC came about, and it was Tipper Gore's mission to stop "porn rock" - having said that she started her crusade when her 11 year old daughter brought home "Purple Rain" by Prince, and she "shock!" heard the song "Darling Nikki" which has a line about a girl masturbating with a magazine. So, worse than wanting to stop actual pornography, Tipper and her crew wanted to stop "porn rock." Senate hearings took place on which Albert Gore, Jr, sat.

So, just putting some perspective on this to show that the matter is not a pure Democrat (good guys) and Republicans (bad guys) issue.

LBJ was in office for less than a month in 1969. Nixon was sworn in on January 20, 1969. It seem highly unlikely that LBJ would have called for a commission at that time.

And many democrats at that time were much like republicans are today. Especially southern democrats. I dare say that if Lincoln were to come back today he wouldn't recognise the GOP. Actually I think even Reagan would think something was different about it.

You'd be wrong about that. Johnson called the Commission.

I know they both would be quite surprised. Reagan would not like much about the present Republican party.

Indeed he did. Its the year that's throwing me off. The LBJ presidential library has 1968 as the start date.

Would Reagan pass the new republican purity test?

I don't know. What's that? I know of a "unity principle," but I'm not sure what you mean by "purity test."

At Hooters you are not seeing actual thigh. You are seeing thigh colored tights.

And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! ..But He loves you.' - George Carlin
