I was 15 when this film came out and it had a profound effect on my life as my name is Terry Anderson
For those of you who haven't seen it the main character Neo is know as Tom Anderson while in the simulation. So I immediately got called 'Mr Anderson' by my mates. I even bought the shades and the coat
So why no thread on this brilliant tiligy of films?

First one is great. Second one has great action scenes which are separated by a load of wank and the third one is criminally bad.

Ever read Snow Crash? It predated Matrix by 7 years, so was probably part of the inspiration. It's also a rambling mess at times, but at least it had an overall arc that ended somewhere.

Of course the Hindu and to some extent Buddhist notion of what it is to be a human being fits nicely with the movies' central idea. Many Hindus believe that we are all avatars of a universal 'soul' or spirit - Brahman - a universal unchanging reality; that we a splash of water lifted temporarily out of the ocean, but inevitably part of it and that humans forget this reality. Life to many Hindus is about realisation of this - of direct experience of it in fact.
I used to believe that sort of woo more or less...or tried to.
