Personally, I'm an "equal opportunities" atheist - I treat all religious leaders with contempt, but his Popiness deserves the most, simply because of his actions, and those of his organisation. L. Ron Hubbard, were he still alive, would probably be his closest rival.Animavore wrote:I love the way you Proddies have been conditioned to hate the Pope. One does not have to read too deeply between the lines to recognise that the pope's protestation is in reality yet another demand that investigations of paedophilia and other sexual offenses among the roman catholic clergy are beyond the remit of secular law enforcers. His recalcitrance is palpable....the pope stressed that abuse within the church needed to be handled by both civil and canon law, "respecting their reciprocal specificity and autonomy".
"Reciprocal specificity and autonomy" has not been affected by the actions of the Belgian authorities. They are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, and they are doing so without impeding those who are responsible to uphold canon law to do whatever they supposedly want to do in any way whatsoever.

Wow, they mean business. As part of their investigation into recent claims of abuse, police last week drilled into the tombs of two archbishops at the cathedral in Mechelen, north of Brussels, using cameras to look for hidden documents, a church official said. Investigators said only one tomb had been opened.

If they were internal cavity searches, then he has a very good point! Invading the sanctity of another human being's private orifices is a very serious matter indeed!'...searches were carried out,' says the pope.
... Oh.
Never mind.
