My World Cup Get Rich Plan
My World Cup Get Rich Plan
I'm not a betting man usually, but for the last few World Cup tournaments I've managed to squeeze a little bit of money out of the bookies by betting on most of the opening games finishing drawn. I've simply observed that the opening games can be so cagey, with the fear that you are almost dead and buried if you lose the first game, that they seem to produce more draws than usual.
This is usually subsidised by the fact that most bookies offer all sorts of free bet deals, and this year I've got £150 worth of bets for my £100 "investment".
In 1998 and 2002 my strategy paid off as planned, with about 4 draws from my chosen 10 bets, and I effectively doubled my money. 2006 didn't quite go to plan with only two draws, so I was a bit worse than break-even. But they gave me a free £50 named score and scorer bet on the final for my 10x£10 bets, and my choice of Zidane and 1:1 proved quite lucrative.
This morning I placed £10 on each of the first 15 games being drawn, and after the SA v Mexico game I only need a couple more draws to be in profit.
The other advantage is that it does make some of the most uninteresting games suddenly become very entertaining.

France 0:0 Uruguay.
A crap game made exciting by the introduction of a bit of money. Two games in, and half a draw from breakeven already.

I bet £1 that we will thrash the yanks four one.

I'm trying to work out if that means you really think they will win easily or not.Pensioner wrote:I bet £1 that we will thrash the yanks four one.

Good ol' New Zealand with their late equaliser.
That's 5 draws from the first 12 games now. My account shows £185 with three bets remaining. Not bad from my £100 investment.
Three bets remaining are Ivory Coast v Portugal, SA v Uruguay and Slovenia v USA. All draws please.

I have been thinking of this thread every time there is a draw I might try this next world cup ...maybe a few 5 match accumulators too .quisquose wrote:Good ol' New Zealand with their late equaliser.

6 draws from 13. It's like taking sweets off a babby.
No money on Brazil to draw tonight. I'm not that stupid.
The only downside to this is that it just goes to show what a boring shit World Cup it is this time!
I'm not betting on the 2nd lot of games, except those already stated. I expect/hope things will pick up with a few more goals as some of the teams have to go for it. Already looking at the 3rd lot of games though, there should be some teams playing each other that have already qualified, or will do if they both get a point.
