1)......philosophers? 2)er.....I guess it keeps them busy :pardon:

It does seem a rather odd profession though, sitting around thinking all day.

From what I can gather, the only people who derive any direct benefit from it are people who like reading/debating philosophy. However, I do think there are some indirect effects of it. Perhaps policy makers may turn to it very occasionally when considering ethics. I presume there might be more, but I can't really think of anything else particularly useful. Philosophy might help us all frame our own worldviews more clearly, in a way more easily comunicable to others. :dono:

Yes because if it weren't for philosophers we would not be able to think ...just as before chefs we didn't know how to put food in our mouths !

and of course before Economics nobody new rare stuff that people wanted was more valuable !

:dq: As a former Philosophy undergrad and now grad student...

...I think you're all pretty much on target.

Philosophers can help sometimes, though, eh? Would the Englightenment, Scientific Revolution, the Internet, etc. have occurred or developed without...wait. Yeah. Probably. :ask:

Hmm. Philosophy requires very little heavy lifting.

Damn, is there anything you're a former of?

Anyway, "A man who claims to be a philosopher undoubtedly has other bad habits as well."

Philosophy question #23

"is a man who eats meat and peas on the same plate unhygienic?"

I think philosophers are the atheist version of priests. (Take that any way you wish.)
