Don't want the Merkins here, taking our jobs! (Durkah durrr)
And we'd have to change our signs to the Merkin language and hire translators at the tax payers expense.
They'll bring their religion here too. This is a Christian country! We don't want the Merkin religion here, with them there wooden churches springing up all over our deserts!
They're gonna change the laws you know! We'll be driving on the other side of the road soon, you mark my words.
Then the trick or treating will start, and Thanks giving. Christmas will disappear! :I-love-pork:
And have you seen their films??? As my Indian friend said "They're too short and there's no singing"
It'll be the last straw when they insist on making me eat honey and butter pancakes for breakfast instead of a Full English.
I'm voting BNP next election.

Soooo....what's the UK law on police checking someone's status? The bobbies aren't allowed to check if a foreigner stopped or detained has a valid visa or is lawfully in the country? Which party is the party that says bobbies should not be able to check? Labour? Lib Dem? Tories?Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Don't want the Merkins here, taking our jobs! (Durkah durrr)![]()

There was a big thing about stop and search here. They trialed it in a high crime area of Birmingham. Which is also a predominantly black area, but the uproar came when it was found out that the majority of stop and searches were on black youths.
So now they can only stop and search if the police feel there is something very suspitious about that person.
But don't quote me on that. This was from my Daily Fail reading days.

Don't worry, Bella! I'm sure that as a non-citizen of the UK, the British police have no power to verify your immigration status.Bella Fortuna wrote:And I thought you liked me. *sniff*Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Don't want the Merkins here, taking our jobs! (Durkah durrr)![]()

Oh, wait, bad news, up until 2008, police in the UK have, since World War 2, been allowed to ask for identity documents only if there is a "reasonable suspicion" that a person has committed an offence. The reasonable suspicion part was taken out of the law in 2008. Now they can just do it anytime they like. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -jail.html

Yes. There's a few fly on the wall programmes on TV here where the cameras follow the police. A few times they've asked for ID or proof of immigration status, but only after they've stopped them for another reason.Coito ergo sum wrote:If they have reasonable suspicion to stop a person, can they check their ID and immigration status too?Deep Sea Isopod wrote:It's against human rights to stop and search without reasonable suspicion. That's what the Arizona immigration law requires. First there must be a lawful stop for another reason, then in addition to that IF, and ONLY IF, the police have, in addition, reasonable suspicion that the stopped/detained person may not be lawfully in the US, they can verify his or her status.Deep Sea Isopod wrote:Yes. Re: Immigration Question for Europeans.
With our current bilateral agreements, virtually anyone can enter Switzerland and live there. A requirement for acquiring citizenship is living and working here for 12 years. If they fail to meet the other requirements (history exam, questions about the political system) they're deported. But we're a small country, and no one gets in our out without the government knowing. However, you're more than welcome to move here, get a job, start a family. Political refugees are also taken care of. No one starves, no one's homeless. If you need help, we'll take care of you. Our own citizens will find a way to cope. The state provides, in any case.

Especially since it motherfucking works. Sure, we're full of old people afraid of change; the south's cultural scene is stifled by nationalistic arrogance; we have some stupid politicians.Martok wrote:Your country is a libertarian's worst nightmare.Chinaski wrote:With our current bilateral agreements, virtually anyone can enter Switzerland and live there. Depends on your definition of 'works'. I believe for example that Switzerland has a very high rate of heroin addiction. A fact that still rather puzzles me.Chinaski wrote:Especially since it motherfucking works.
