That would be a bit disappointing. Education is pretty damn important.Rum wrote:There education policy looks a little thin so far. Looks like I'm out of a job. Fine by me!
I still haven't been able to find a video of Professor Brian Cox when he was on the alternative election night. He gave a wonderful discussion about the things we should be worrying about rather than all these political policies. I found a transcript of the final point though, and it seems accurate as far as I remember.
Jimmy Carr: We’ve have super volcanoes, we’ve had asteroids, we’ve had stars exploding … So the number one thing we need to be worried about?
Brian Cox: I think our own stupidity, without doubt. I genuinely think that. … I did my programme, you know, The Wonders of the Solar System; I said “astrology is rubbish” on that programme, and we got an almost record number of complaints from stupid people. … We do not bother studying nature.
Jimmy Carr: Is any political party saying, “We should put more into this, and we should be leading the world?”
Brian Cox: Do you know why I’m miserable tonight? The Lib Dems were the standard bearers for investment in science, and nobody appears to have voted for them, which backs up my initial feeling that stupidity will kill us.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

I can't, I'm not in power.Elessarina wrote:...ok ok whatever YOU sort the mess out...
Bit of a stupid thing to say really.
Yeah, like that's not the kind of thing the Tories would have done in their place.Elessarina wrote:...fucking labour made by using all the pension funds .. people's pension funds,...
By the way, lot's of private sector pension funds have disappeared in recent years as well. Which party do you suppose the MD's of the companies concerned most likely support?
I have no bias, I actively support none of the current political parties.Elessarina wrote:...So many people are so fucking blinded by political bias it is as bad as those who support the damn Pope...
I do however have views on what are good-or-bad policies, and while Labours economic policies may not be good, the Tories economic policies most certainly are bad (as the inevitable double-dip recession, if those policies are pushed though in full, will prove).
I expect you'd go out and find a choir boy for Cameron to shaft if he asked you to.Elessarina wrote:...I expect you'd kiss Brown's arse if he were shafting a choir boy...
See? Two can play at this game.
So people who don't agree with a country's government have no right to live there? Where are we - China? This is still my country too, and it will take more than some ludicrous, pasty-faced, duplicitous Etonian cunt to force me out.Elessarina wrote:...If you expect the tories to do so badly then fuck off to another country it's simple really...
Anyway, try turning your argument around. If you thought Labour were doing so badly then why didn't you 'simply' fuck off to another country?
So your view is "support whoever's in charge, even if you don't agree with them"? Well tough, that just ain't the way I roll. I didn't do it for Labour, and I sure-as-fuck won't do it for the Tories.Elessarina wrote:...But seeing as we have a new government in place I plan to support it as I did Labour when they came into power in '97...
Oh that's right. I'm worse than Hitler.Elessarina wrote:...because whining and moaning about it while sitting on your arse doing fucking nothing is worse than what any government has done EVER...
Anyway, if whining and moaning while sitting on your arse doing fucking nothing is so bad, then perhaps you'd like to explain what sucking-up to the powers-that-be while sitting on your arse doing fucking nothing is supposed to achieve?

I like it. No sense in tiring yourself out, doing it all in a rush. And a guillotine is such a nuisance to keep sharp once the blood starts to dry on it.Clinton Huxley wrote:RuleBritannia wrote:"The Quiet Revolution"

William Hague actually seems like a nice enough chap, until he starts to talk about foreign policy, when he heads very quickly towards condescending smarmville. He seems to have all the qualities required of a Tory foreign secretary.ficklefiend wrote:

Re: The UK election thread
Got a couple problems with the cabinet.
The deepest recession in 70 years and a massive public debt, George Osborne, who has a degree in history, is in charge of the economy. Meanwhile Dr. Vince Cable, who has a PhD in economics, is in charge of business innovation or something.
Theresa May, who voted gainst adoption for unmarried and gay couples, the repeal of Section 28 (which outlawed the promotion or teaching of homosexuality), a 100% elected House of Lords, second reading of the government's higher education bill (which included plans for variable student tuition fees), amendment to require faith schools to take 25% of pupils from other backgrounds and lowering the age of consent for gay sex to 16, will, naturally, be Minister for Equality.
With an amazing 25 to 4, men, make up 86% of the cabinet.
96% of the cabinet is white, only one person isn't, Baroness Warsi, who is a "Minister without Portfolio", so doesn't even head a department.
