Yes, it seems that the Dawkins oligarchy has finally finished engineering their "clear-thinking oasis".

Meh. All the bells and whistles that were touted have come to pass, but bells and whistles do not a forum make.
Firstly, there is currently moderation on FP articles. What else does cleaning up mean? Secondly, as for this leading to "better discussions" than on the forum ...
Seriously, this is no laughing matter.

/Mike wrote:As currently in articles, there is no moderation of comments. We think that leads to better discussions and the only downside is having to put up with the occasional troll until they can be cleaned up after.

Gravatar. Well that's a really exciting change.
Oh and Google Calendar as well. What an exciting new feature.

No moderation probably refers to no pre-approval of posts, just threads.
I'm sure they'll still be deleting away when anyone calls them bastards.

Yes, I'm fairly sure that's what he means by "no moderation" of comments - people can just post them without approval, same as now and on most forums. The pre-approval type of moderation will be on any new topics that people want to post in the discussion area.virphen wrote:No moderation probably refers to no pre-approval of posts, just threads.

So far, I'm not excited by the proposed changes.

It's not a forum they're introducing, it's a moderated discussion board.
If they didn't want an internet forum they shouldn't have made one. You would have thought that someone with a background in technology, in particular website design, would know what a public forum would be. Christ, even the old Usenet groups were like that.
Sex, swearing and stormy teacups. It's not the internet if they're not visible.

Commented.

Well, I'm veritably coming in my pants at the thought of setting up a gravatar and syncing my calendar with the site's - and I can also see so clearly now that it was necessary to abolish the forum and erect another version of the front page in its place.
I now appreciate how all the angst, arrogance, professional incompetance, and downright obnoxiousness, followed by mockable delays have all been worth it in the end. I never fully appreciated the type of masterpiece that would be unveiled.
But perhaps I'm a touch misguided in my cynicism… We shall see…
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.
