The film wasn't that bad though. Not great either. Just there.

Re: Steampunk Films?
I like the film, it's fun and silly, but a lot of people see it as absolute heresy to turn an Alan Moore comic into something fun and silly. I see them as two separate entities, comic book and film, so it doesn't really bother me.

What is steampunk?

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I ask because I don't want to use google. I am looking for the answer typed out by someone who knows and can sum it up in one sentence. It's much more rewarding than a cold explanation by some stupid wiki page. It feels more personalGawdzilla wrote:Normal wrote:What is steampunk?

But to look at it at the level of the graphic novel would require you to be familiar with the graphic novel. Otherwise...Gawdzilla wrote:Yeah, "comic book made into a film".Animavore wrote:Gawdzilla wrote:Never picked up a graphic so I couldn't tell. Re: Steampunk Films?
It's a genre of books/films/games/comics that is set in a fictional 19th century (often Victorian), that includes odd extras like airships, and other advanced technology based on steam rather than electricity. The genre doesn't have to include those technological elements though, as it can just pick up the visual style instead. It's part fantasy, part sci-fi and crosses over into pulp quite often too.Normal wrote:What is steampunk?

Was the new Sherlock Holmes movie sort of in that genre?Pappa wrote:It's a genre of books/films/games/comics that is set in a fictional 19th century (often Victorian), that includes odd extras like airships, and other advanced technology based on steam rather than electricity.
