The 'ash crisis' - I noticed something weird

Post by Rum » Sat Apr 17, 2010 4:33 pm

Well the world is about to come to and end because we can't fly fresh strawberries in from Africa for now however...

I was just driving down the M6 from north to south Carlisle - I use it as a sort of bypass which cuts 20 minutes off negotiating the middle of town. It is a glorious sunny late afternoon, if a little breezy. I looked up. A clear blue sky...but wait, what's this? Something odd..

Not a single jet trail in the sky! And I suddenly realised what an unusual sight that is.

Weird what we get used to!

Yep. We get used to seeing them all the time.

:? Could that be why it's suddenly become so warm in the last couple of days.

Perhaps so, they said the planes being grounded after 9/11 gave researchers one hell of an opportunity which they jumped on.

I'm assuming they'll be doing the same thing right about now all over Europe.

Scientist did notice a change in weather patterns shortly after 9/11 and the grounding of the planes over the continental US.

I live in the flight path of both Bristol and Cardiff airports, I can't remember ever looking up and not seeing at least one plane or jet trail. It makes the world feel bigger*.

Bristol eh? :ask: Going shopping in a bit - will report on the status of the sky, because I'm just that sad.

Edit: Totally clear :o

Oh yeah, I didn't think about it at the time but we spent yesterday at the beach and not one helicopter flew over. Normally it's about one every half hour.

I don't get why this volcano is getting all the blame when it is obviously all the fault of cigarette smokers.

I was commenting on the same thing to my mate tonight (lack of vapour trails - not tinfoil hats and allied bollocks!)

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, as we are underneath some major Atlantic routes as well. Nary a jet trail to be seen ... :levi:

Some of us can still fly on the other side of the world.
