My heritage is a mix of Polish and English but it's 100% Russian if you go back far enough. If you go back even further, it's 100% African. :hehe:

I'm half Italian (my mom, her parent's both come from families where they were born in America but their siblings were born in Italy. Both families came over in the 19teens through Ellis Island) but my Papa was Sicilian and my Nana's family Northern Italian.

My other half (on my Dad's side) is much less known. My grandma is an Irish/English/French mix, with some roots here at least back to before the civil war since we have letters from one of them who was a soldier for the North). Not sure about his dad, but most likely Italian or English from the info we have about the possibilities.

So yeah, I was raised identifying as Italian-American because we were so close to that side of the family, and got to know all the details as I got older :hehe:

my father's parents were Québécois (F) and Acadian (M), both families originally from Brittany

my mother's side is very interesting, her father was 1/2 Knickerbocker Dutch, 1/2 Clann 'icGhillelàidir (Clan Armstrong)
i'm related to Robert Burns, and George Armstrong Custer, as well as Neil Armstrong; and my ggf (E.A.B.) was General Counsel to The Great Northern Railroad and has a building or two at Princeton named after him
my gf grew up in Minneapolis, and was childhood friends and drinking buddies with F. Scott Fitzgerald (they both went to prep school together, and both dropped out of Princeton to join the Army Air Corps together - i have 6 Zelda Fitzgerald paintings hanging on my walls, likely 'worth' much more than my house...)
he also sat on the boards of US Steel, JP Morgan, and a few others
my mother's mother was "Shanty Irish", a Ziegfield Girl before she worked at Tiffany's NY, and it caused quite a scandal when my NY Social Register gf married a working class girl as his second wife about a month before my mother was born....

Two Burleson brothers came to America from Wales in the 1700's. One went north, one went south - I'm from the southern branch. Burleson - son of Burl ("butler").

Father's mother - Allen - Scottish, meaning "handsome."
Mother's father - Bowmer - anglicized Old Breton "Beaumer"
Mother's mother - Morgan - Welsh/Scottish/Irish origin.

On my dad's side, I have a little bit of German, French, and Cajun French mixed in with a miniscule amount of Irish in me.
My mom's full German, and her grandfather was an immigrant. I don't know if we're actually related to him, but there was a Nazi fighter ace who shared my mother's maiden name. (Eckerle)
It may just be a common name. :dono:

I've been researching my family tree for over 16 years now!

3 convicts! And as my mother is Tasmanian I am related to everyone in Tasmania

English, Dutch, German, Huguenot French and if you go far enough back I have Scottish, Polish, Belgian, Ukrainian, Danish, Norwegian etc etc (I can trace my ancestry back to Charlemagne and further)

Let's face it we are all connected if you go back far enough. :drunk:

I sometimes wish that Harald Hardrada had not left half his army/armor back at his boats in York. I think he should've been able to take Godwinson at Stamford Bridge. I wonder what Hardrada's army, with prep time, might have been able to accomplish against the Normans.....

I'd love to see the documentation that would back this claim up.

I traced my lineage back to Africa: https://genographic.nationalgeographic. ... index.html

Actually, I really did - I sent away for the kit and sent it in. The results are very interesting, if you have $100 bucks to spend on a lark.

I'm half German (Protestant), half Dutch (Jew). My Dutch mother's side of the family is related to the Citroen family, the French car manufacturers. But we've never met any of them. Most of her family was wiped out in WW2.

Actually, maybe not that much... they might have crushed the saxons, they still would have had to run all the way from Stamford to Hastings, except in hostile country, and then faced large numbers of archers and armored cavalry,, which they might not be at top efficiency against... then, if I believe my college profs and the authorities they believe in, there's no record of purely Norse forces ever winning a victory agains serious opposition unless they had overwhelming weight of number : i.e. they may have been superlative duellists and raiders, but they did not fight well at all against actual armies.

I just found online my paternal grandfather's entry on a ship manifest from when they came over from Russia in 1922 to escape the madness there. Cheers to the internet! :toot:
