Opinions about best albums differ. The earlier stuff is a bit less melodic and more distorted, however they manage to keep the aggression going on their later albums while upping the songwriting a bit. My faves are Ashes of the Wake (with Laid To Rest and Now You've Got Something To Die For- Great songs) and Sacrament (which is where Redneck comes from). A lot of people say they try too hard to be Pantera; while I can see where they're coming from, IMO they're like Pantera without Anselmo's douchebaggery and with actually really good playing and catchy songwriting.

I'm listening to a playlist now on YouTube. They sound to me as much like MachineHead as they do Pantera. They're good though. I was just looking at the wall of death. The person who made the video is trying to make it out like the guy in the middle didn't know what was happening though I'm pretty sure he did.

Tenacious D rocks!

I like a wide range of music genres and an even wider range of examples within genres ... the Stones had some good music, particularly early on, as did the Beatles ...

When I was around ten years old, the first Beatles song I heard and asked about was Get Back (years after it was released) and I've liked them since ...

My favourite Beatles track is Come Together

Favourite Stones track is Gimme Shelter

Best band of all time? Pink Floyd? Queen? ACDC? It seems whenever bands are nominated for such a label there's a clear leading preference of genre, even if the preferred band itself is contentious ...

If I gave an opinion on something I know nothing about, wouldn't that make me a twat? ;)
I only do 'easy' rock and honestly don't understand tha appeal of shouting to music. I can remember thinking "this would be a good track if someone weren't shouting all over it" but can't remember which band it was. (Might it have been System Of A Down?)
What do you think of this then? No screaming, just beauty.
Mmm, nice voice.
I don't like my rock with keyboards, though (and I have a irrational hatred of prog rock :mob: ). I'm quite happy to stick with

Tell you what I do like - broken rhythms, changes of time signature, things in 7/8, that kind of thing. Clever. Foos do it, so do QOTSA. Radiohead do it with aplomb on Paranoid Android.

Tool, Soundgarden and Neurosis also do broken rhythms and changes of time signatures. I've a friend who plays drums has great difficulty playing Soundgarden songs. Especially this one.

EDIT: Song is 5/4 by the way.

And here's Soundgarden using a 7/4 beat in the bridge of this song.

They're my favourite band of all time. I have all their albums and have listened to them since 1994. They're not well known in Ireland so they're my band. I hate when the riff raff take your music away from you. I remember when Oasis first came out not many were listening to them. Then the second album came out and and everyone was into them. It was as if I found out my girlfriend was sleeping with everyone.

This is legendary Soundgarden. Also using a 4/4/, 7/4 combination.

Quality of the vid is shit but, the sound is good.

Soundgarden

MCJ, you might like Porcupine Tree? Difficult to find original tracks on YouTube, but worth a listen if you get the opportunity. Also, Oceansize might be of interest ...
