Yeah it's a pity we can't discuss during the night... I'm at work all day, and finish just as the day round finishes, so it's hard to get to the nitty gritty.

Yeah, that would probably be good. Oblivion, is it against the spirit of the game if Blip names the person to whom she's referring?

Careful heyzeus, she might name YOU!

You seem the most suspicious to me at the moment. I might revise that once I finish catching up.CookieJon wrote:Careful heyzeus, she might name YOU!
Ironically, heyzeus seems like one of the most likely members to be town, judging by his posts. If not, s/he is a damn good actor.

Oh, don't worry now. I'm several pages further and you're seeming less suspicious. It was the initial revelation of your identity that was most suspect, seeing as it fit just as well if you were mafia, minus the small possibility that virphen was yet another indie. In which case, I'd assume he'd have gone along with it anyway and attempted to have you lynched or assassinated later.CookieJon wrote:Well it's a good thing you're dead then, isn't it!Mephistopheles wrote:You seem the most suspicious to me at the moment...

Yes it is. I suggest that the Zombies chat with each other (not living players) via PM if they want to speculate on the game.heyzeus wrote:Yeah, that would probably be good. Oblivion, is it against the spirit of the game if Blip names the person to whom she's referring?
Strictly speaking the amount of gametalk (strategy and observations) happening in this thread during the night-phases is against the rules. I'm being somewhat lenient because of the huge spread of time zones among the players, but it's making me itch something awful when I read this thread.

Oh, okay then. I'll just shut up till morning, then. Lol. Peeps are welcome to see my speculations in here later. Though at the moment, there's naught much to go on.oblivion wrote:Yes it is. I understand and appreciate that. Still, you may call attention to a post that the living players have glossed over or misinterpreted, and that could be game-changing. I play Mafia nearly every week. I am often an early night kill. If the scum go to the trouble of killing me on night 1 or 2 and I am still making comments and observations where the living players can see them, then what good was the scum strategy of killing me early?Mephistopheles wrote:I'm keeping all of my speculation limited to the posts in the Dune thread. If I ever start gaining knowledge that isn't accessible to the live players, then yes I will start discussing in PM.oblivion wrote:Yes it is. I'm not calling you out specifically so don't feel bad. I know that you guys have developed a unique style of Mafia. I am trying to explain the reason for the rules about outside-the-game play in more traditional mafia games.

Ahhhhhhhhh...I see your point now. Killing is also used to silence people who are getting too close to the truth, or to make it seem like someone was close to the truth. Gotcha. Then I won't say anything more.oblivion wrote:I understand and appreciate that. Clearly I knew too much. My bodyguard abilities told me exactly who everyone was that first night. I had to go. lolz. (if that's even possible, I'm joking guys)

Re: Dune 2.0 Peanut Gallery
Sorry, Oblivion! I hadn't thought my observation was worth much more than a d'oh but I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on.
Apropos the separation of the peanut gallery and the game thread, for future games (assuming there are such) might it be an idea to allow game play discussion overnight on the game thread? It would mean we GMT players could get more of a look-in and, from the sound of it, the antipodeans too.

Re: Dune 2.0 Peanut Gallery
I've been pondering how it might work if game days last 24 hours, with a 6-8 hour night window for getting in the night actions. Something like this:Blip wrote:Sorry, Oblivion! I hadn't thought my observation was worth much more than a d'oh but I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on.

12:00 AM - 12:00 AM GMT - Day 1
12:00 AM - 8:00 AM GMT - Night 1
8:00 AM - 8:00 AM GMT - Day 2
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM GMT - Night 2
...etc.
It could be a little rough on the GM, but if he/she doesn't write wall-o-text daybreak and nightfall posts, it wouldn't be too bad.
Re: Dune 2.0 Peanut Gallery
Why not just leave the day/night cycle as is, but allow conversation overnight as well?
Or, as a compromise, allow conversation a few hours before day starts, and after day ends.

Re: Dune 2.0 Peanut Gallery
Would it not work for you if you had a 12 hour day followed by a twelve hour night (with the game thread open)? In real time, I mean. That would ensure that all players could participate fully and make life easier on you as the GM.
If you were to opt for 12 hour days followed by eight hour nights, people would lose track, I'm certain.
Mind you, I'm an utter novice (as you can tell by my failed experiment in this game) so I may be missing something critical.
Cross-posted with CookieJon, but in agreement with him.

The thing about off-hours game talk is that it can affect what players decide to do for their night actions. That's why gametalk stops during the night in non-PM games.CookieJon wrote:Why not just leave the day/night cycle as is, but allow conversation overnight as well?
