The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

I did try to read it, but I was too young. I watched both the Dune movies then too, but I don't remember too much of itDP wrote:Unfortunately, not reading Dune isn't a capital offence.Normal wrote:Ah, I see. Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. -Douglas Adams

Hasn't anyone ever read the mouseover description? Every time you post that you advocate making me ruler of everything.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

I, Blip, am the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam.
I am completely neutral: I am on neither side in this endeavour. I understand that I can, however, be brought into either team to help them with my special powers, depending on how things pan out. Once that decision is made it will be irrevocable. But for now, I am no-one's friend, no-one's enemy and, as a Bene Gesserit, I have no opinion either way.
Nor, for avoidance of doubt, do I have any ambition to lead or to serve.

Oh, alright, that's a very powerful argument, I'm convinced.....Blip wrote:Nor, for avoidance of doubt, do I have any ambition to lead or to serve.
I retract my vote for myself as mayoress.

What are the perks associated with this mayoral gig?

I am on no side. I have no view. Once my allegiance is cast, I shall not be able to switch. I shall use my unique powers for that team. But for now, I am independant of either faction and logically indifferent as to the outcome.I_pity_the_fool wrote:Beh. You're voting for someone who could potentially switch sides and win with scum? The OP says that the mayor has 1.5 votes for lynching, so potentially a tie breaker, but that seems to be it.irreligionist wrote:What are the perks associated with this mayoral gig?

I wouldn't vote for someone who is non-town, an independent. She could hurt us.
We want someone we think is town. The only power the mayor has is 1.5 votes, but that can make a big difference in a close lynch vote.

I am with town, but if I nominate and get made mayor would I get whacked tonight? Is that what happens - scum kill someone overnight?

This is the word of the Bene Gesserit and it may help us all:
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
