Well, it was an interesting phenomenon and everyone loved it... but looking back, was it actually any good? I don't think it was really.
I beg to differ ... no, I demand to differ :lay:. I don't think I've seen any British drama series to compare with it since then. And I've watched re-runs (and re-runs of re-runs) in the past couple of years, so it's not as if I'm remembering something different to what I actually saw first time round. :eddy:

I have to admit to bit of a nostalgic connection though. This Life is something I'll always associate with the mid 1990's. :levi:

Absolutely! Other great British comedies I'd also recommend are One Foot in the Grave, The Brittas Empire, Yes Minister (of course!) and Absolutely Fabulous.

I'm also a big fan of Dad's Army, but I"m not sure it'd go down as well in the US.

The modern equivalent of this would probably be The Thick Of It:

Oh I LOVED The Good Life, mostly because of Penelope Keith as the unashamedly snobby neighbour. :hehe: They're all up on YouTube too, I notice... There goes my weekend!

Brilliant and all as Penelope Keith was, I think most men probably watched the show for Felicity Kendal ... :shifty:

Yeah, I think Iannuci said somewhere it was meant to be a modern-day Yes Minister. (I'm a fan of both, btw) Apparently some US network is going to "remake" it, but I don't see what it would be without the wonderfully creative swearing?!

That reminds me, I'm Alan Partridge is another good one - They've perfected the art of "cringe comedy" with that character!

Rebecca front, who was in the latest series of The Thick Of It, is one of the unfortunate lesbians here ...

 I think I'm going to have to do some serious torrent searches.

Wasn't there some other show a bit like The Good Life? Around that time.... I just can't remember. Maybe not.... hehe.. 'Margo' ... she was hilarious! hahaha - you liked her more than Felicity? wow... Felicity was sooper cute!!

We downloaded the radio show of Hitchhiker's Guide... that is pretty great too.

Well, Penelope Keith played another snob in To the Manor Born which was very popular, but not really my cup of tea... not nearly as funny as Margo in The Good Life, IMO.

Yes, me neither. I was thinking of something else but it's not springing to mind. I might be getting confused with As Time Goes By or A Fine Romance.

I'd rather not remember Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and George and Mildred .. gulp. Wonder what they seem like now? ' Frank' .. 'yes Betty' ...yikes... even as a little kid I wanted to kick him ;)

Black Books. Who ever thought of putting Dylon Moran and Bill Bayley together? :hilarious:

:roflol: :roflol: Comic gold. I'd hate to be too young or too foreign to get it.

Ok, i don't know how much others think they were good shows or not, but i actually enjoyed all of those "How clean is your house" and "Life laundry" and the like. ( Plus they sure got me motivated to do something about my own messes) Those two housecleaning ladies were so funny. Their names escape me.
I actually also enjoyed some of the episodes of changing rooms, especially when things went wrong and the people objected to the changes...
but yeah Fawlty Towers was really the top for me.
Unfortunately i only get the BBC entertainment ( used to be called BBC Prime) channel here.

The wonderful thing about libraries and bookstores- even the television or the radio- is that no one is forcing you to read anything, or to go to any particular movie, or to watch something on television or to listen to something on the radio. You have free choice. -Judith Krug
