Any TV or movies filmed in/celebrities from your area?
Ellen Degeneres is from New Orleans (along with millions of jazz artists), which is only about an hour away. Ian Sommerholder's (Boone from Lost) and the rapper "Juvenile" are from the adjacent parish (what we call counties in Louisiana). Britney Spears is from my parish (and her crappy movie was partially filmed where my dad sometimes goes fishing). The "God Warrior" from Trading Spouses is from the town in which I went to school. Irma Thomas is from my town, but I think lived mostly in N.O., and now a different area since Katrina.
Parts of "Ray" were filmed in downtown Hammond. A film called "The Open Road" was filmed in Baton Rouge and a few other places along with some places that were only a mile away (like the gas station. I had a friend that lived a few houses down from it.).

I see Bella in this part of the forum. Prepare for some name-dropping.

I live next door to Downey studios where lots of stuff is filmed and work in West Hollywood on the Sunset strip. So yeah, a lot. See "somebody" everyday, pretty much. My favorite thing is Dexter has coffee at the Peet's across the street all the time
Really it's more annoying than anything since we have to deal with extra traffic due to filming going on somewhere, sometimes in multiple places, between work and home almost every single day.

Nice topic!
Torrance, California, where I'm from, has had lots of filming done there (pardon me for ripping it all off from Wikipedia):
One film missing above is Ed Wood - the theatre scene was filmed at the then-abandoned-now-gone Pussycat Theater.
We've had a few well-known residents...
Michelle Kwan, the Olympic skater
Quentin Tarantino
Parnelli Jones, race car driver
Roger Clinton
And probably most impressive of all - Chuck Norris opened his first dojo there.

South High, mentioned above, was my school.Media appearances
The city has been subject of a number of cultural references. Mark Wahlberg is involved in two, in Boogie Nights his character Eddie Adams/Dirk Diggler is from Torrance, and in Three Kings his character Sfc. Troy Barlow in the epilogue is revealed to go on to manage a carpet store in Torrance California. Coincidently Three Kings co-star Spike Jonze directed a mocumentary chronicling the fictional Torrance Community Dance Group (from Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" video, also directed by Jonze) on their road to the MTV Video Music Awards. Torrance is also mentioned in the South Park episode Freak Strike. Torrance was also a filming location for the 1997 movie Volcano. A scene in the movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle was filmed at the Foster's Freeze Drive-thru located in downtown Torrance.
Del Amo Fashion Center has been used as a location for several motion pictures, including Jackie Brown and Bad Santa.
The Torrance Drive-In, now gone, is the mentioned in chapter 8 of the Philip K. Dick novel, A Scanner Darkly.
Torrance High School's facade is familiar to television viewers as the setting for Beverly Hills, 90210 and its spinoff, 90210 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and to moviegoers for its appearances in She's All That, Not Another Teen Movie and The Wild Life.
South High School, near the southern border of Torrance, was used as a location for the 1999 filming of the movie American Beauty.
Torrance is also the home of filming the hit show Zeke and Luther. They have appeared skateboarding at the Daily Breeze building, and Wilson Park.
In Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, School 2 references North High.

Oh yeah, that movie about Pistol Pete, called "The Pistol" was filmed at my junior high. Some parts look a bit different since the fire in 94 or 95, but much of it is recognizable.
In fact, I think my 7th grade English class was located where many of the classroom scenes were shot.

I remember you posting a pic of a diner that I've seen in a film or two.rachelsinatra wrote:I live next door to Downey studios where lots of stuff is filmed and work in West Hollywood on the Sunset strip. Yeah, if you forget about where we work and just focus on Downey, it's not nearly as crazy. The most recent I remember is Pineapple express. When they are driving around and a couple actual locations are literally around the block from here. It's funny because there are also some shots in it from Glendale, where we had just moved here from.

I went to school with former WBC heavyweight world-champion, Frank Bruno (in London.) And Robin Hood lived near my town.

I'm from Delaware, whose famous people run more toward serial murderers and Joe Biden than the more positive sort of fame. Let's see... um, I think Bruce Willis has some Wilmington roots; the emaciated actress who played Ally McBeal before marrying her grandfather Harrison Ford is from here; and, er, that guy, who's married to that girl... uhm... Ryan somebody? Phillipe maybe? I really don't know my Hollywood types very well. Oh yeah, and Valerie Bertinelli. If you branch out into the arts a little further, Howard Pyle and the Wyeth family are from here also.
As for movies filmed here, if you've ever seen Dead Poets Society, the high school marching band (and the field they marched on) were the school I had graduated from the year before; a neighbor was cast as one of Robin Williams' students, and a number of other local sites were used in the film. A year or two ago Matthew McWomenwantme was in town making a movie as well; I'm not sure what the film was, but for about a week you couldn't pick up the local paper without seeing a picture of him shirtless at the beach.

Oh, and how could I forget the cheer that went up in the theater at the end of this scene?
Who needs a signature anyway?

Buffalo Bill Cody was a resident as was actor Claude Rains. The golfer Jim Furyk is from here too.
Part of the film Marley & Me was shot here.

Oh and M. Night Shyamalan grew up in these parts too - which is why so many of his films are shot in PA.
