It's adequate, what I want to see if the forum repaired with the reinstatement from the last backup of the deleted posts.

And that for me is where the "rubber hits the road". I shall be most interested to see that too. If this is purely some window dressing in the hope it can calm everyone, but nothing significant will change, then I shall wait to see if the negative feelings continue.

Well he appears to be over the defensive adrenaline rush so time to ask for what needs to be done to set things right. He has apologised so it shouldn't be to difficult to repair the damage down by Andrew.

I am 50/50 as the whether he will do what it right.

You bet. I wonder how long it took from the moment of posting "Outrage" until the realisation dawned that he would have to repair the damage ASAP.

If I decide to respond, it will be via PM or email. It would be exceedingly polite, but very much to the point nonetheless in respect of this, that and the other.

That looks like a pretty admirable and genuine apology to me. While it would have been better to have seen such an approach taken from the outset of the changes it's still nice to see him make a general acknowledgment of the value of the (old) forum - its contents, moderators and members.

Hopefully folks will at least give the new forum a shot.

The good thing is that apologies don't necessarily need to be sincere. Even an insincere one takes some grinding of teeth to write. I think this one was sincere. It didn't cover too many rocky areas, so I'm assuming the things that were covered are the true things.


I can accept an apology and still not agree with the plans at the same time. Anyway, what I wanted most was some confirmation that Richard cared at all about the forum members. This was enough for that, so I'm happy for now.

They most certainly do for me, and I suspect he was well aware that nothing short of wide-ranging and somewhat soul-searching apology was required, even if it didn't cover every last point.

And what about people like Darwin'sbulldog who had all their stuff deleted? Does this apology make it right for them? Isn't such an action unforgiveable? Or at least are they going to find someway to make this right?

Perhaps if Josh had an entire back up of the entire forum they could.

^^^ Remains to be seen, but I think a personal apology to each of the staff and to those whose contributions were wiped out isn't too much to expect, but Richard's very busy atm so give him a bit of time, eh? Hopefully he'll find a quiet moment in the not too distant future to give this the attention it deserves.
