Its apples and oranges in the sense that old Rationalia members are not endorsing this, but to the fundies/antivaxers/creationists it doesn't matter. They'll use our bile, here and now, as ammunition of how atheists aren't any better.

I'm not trying to be all PC and "Won't someone think of the children?" here. If we continue, we will lose the moral high ground. Simple as that.

Well, all I can say is that at bottom I'm incontrovertibly delighted that unabashed pussbags such as Kevin Ronayne have finally been awarded with their richly deserved come-uppance. I can't say I agree with Josh Timonen's methods...but these are really no different from the same bullying tactics that the RDF moderating staff have been using, and getting away with, for two or three years.

If Kevin Ronayne didn't like you, he would go through your post history with a fine comb and and try to find as many posts as possible that he could twistingly interpret as amounting to "personal attacks". Then you would suddenly receive a two week suspension. If out of defiance to this injustice you created a temporary sockpuppet account, you would be permanently banned from the forum. Naturally, various cowardly covering up tactics were without hesitation applied. (He would delete posts, delete threads, and, if feeling generous, merge separate threads so as to make the sequence of events incomprehensible.)

I emailed Josh Timonen over this. I got the impression that he knew that the moderating staff were out-and-out douchebags, but didn't want to rock the boat. Can't say I blame him. Probably a number of parallel cases were also brought to his attention. Very likely, he knew perfectly well that the forum staff were highly dishonest control freaks, who would stifle interesting debate. They deserved a taste of their own medicine, and in any case, one can hardly blame Josh for tearing down the whole rotten edifice of pointless gossip and draconian thought-policing.

I thought it was Poe, but i don't see the amusement in new registered poes, it's too hard to work out and just unfunny really.

I'd just ban them now and worry later if they were trying to be funny and failing.

A short while ago I submitted a post to this thread in which I accused the former RDF forum staff (Kevin Ronayne in particular) of the same heavy-handed tactics as Josh Timonen. I think I stated myself too mildly: Kevin Ronayne and co. were actually even worse in this regard.

Now I discover that my post has been removed. So very revealing. Cowardly covering up of dissent was also a distinguishing hallmark of the former RDF forum staff.

The fascists, it seems, have finally got a taste of their own bitter medicine.
