The Movie Music Thread!
What are some great moments in movie music? I am not talking about entire OSTs, but those great tracks that perfectly capture a moment on film, but with perfectly timed aural bliss! A perfect marriage of the motion picture and music. These are moments that should rock out your speakers.
Here's one (skip to the 2 minute mark!) from 2:03-2:40:

I always liked Mark Mothersbaugh's music for Rushmore.
Sent from my Bollocksberry using Crapatalk.

Some people say this scene is way too emo, but fuck 'em, I liked it. Perfect music for the scene by Thomas Newman.

Before I started hearing it in almost everything, I was very fond of this piece:

For the full song:

I also liked the original Nightmare on Elm Street score.
I found out that the theme was inspired by that 70's song "Dream Weaver". You can kind of hear it in there.

Ah, Requiem for a Dream's theme. Used now by every YouTube video imaginable.
Great stuff though.
How about the scene in Sunshine...

Re: The Movie Music Thread!
I love Nagisa Oshima's films and although Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is probably one of his worst, it had the best soundtrack ever by Riyuichi Sakamoto. Particularly the main theme. I know you asked for a specific scene but there aren't really any clips of the film on youtube that are sufficient.
Also, this scene from Jurassic Park:
Probably mostly out of nostalgia, though. I saw that film when I was around three years old and it spurred my lifelong obsession with cinema and dinosaurs.

I hope no one goes posting any Narnia shit. Kind of got tired of the same theme being repeated every 5 minutes with little variation.
Plus, Gregson-Williams has written much better stuff.
I approve of the Horner and Williams representation in this thread.

Check this out. The Youtube poster used the proper video, but dropped the film audio and laid back the score only. It's even more wonderful like this:

It's a crime that it was not nominated for Best Picture that year. That was the year fuckin 'Driving Miss Daisy' won Best Picture, and 'GLORY' wasn't even nominated...Martok wrote:A wonderful movie.eXcommunicate wrote:GIVE EM HELL 54th!

Ooh I like this thread...
Here's 3 that stick in my mind (although they probably won't "rock out your speakers" as requested, sorry).
1) Michael Kamen's score for Brazil was particularly witty, I thought... here's a snippet...
2) Khachaturian's melancholy style gave this bit of 2001 a wonderful eeriness (also, since you started with Avatar, this bit was lifted by James Horner for the Aliens score, btw - I'm guessing overtly)
3) And how could you go past the original blockbuster of blockbusters? John Williams' score was 90% of its success, methinks...

Funny story; when I was a wee lad one of my chief motivations for learning how to read was so I could read the crawl at the beginning of Star Wars.CookieJon wrote:Ooh I like this thread...

Man everyone knows the best movie soundtrack in Judgement Night.
PS... My stuuupid spell checker, which is set to American for some reason, has once again tried to tell me that I spelt something wrong. In this case judgement. <Ye see that. There is an 'e' in judgement.
