Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Well, I just had to comment in homeopathy thread. Comment #463599 by jayalink is, of course, the one wondering why there has to be at least one "I hate Josh" comment in every thread.
Re: Comment #463599 by jayalink:
It's a common conclusion that many have arrived at based on personal experience and the evidence at hand.
Re: Homeopathy in general:
I wish it worked. I've got arthritis and most of the effective medicines make me bleed (I'm a hemophiliac too) so I've tried some of the homeopathic cures. None of them helped the arthritis whatsoever, although one does seem to have made me bleed.

He is truly either senile and Josh leads him like a sheep, or he has no regard for other people. Either way, I know whose books I won't buy any longer. You have broken my trust in you and I shall not forgive you.
(Also, it looks like he actually read some posts here.)

The one where Richard contradicts himself:Weaver wrote:RD has spoken ... supporting Josh all the way:

And the one where Richard completely misses the point:The aim of the letter is to describe an exciting new revamping of our site, one in which quality will take precedence over quantity, where original articles on reason and science, on atheism and scepticism, will be commissioned, where frivolous gossip will be reduced.
The new plan may succeed or it may fail, but I think it is worth trying. And even if it fails, it most certainly will not deserve the splenetic hysteria that the mere suggestion of it has received.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Remember Deep Throat's (Hal Holbrook) line about Nixon and the rest of the Watergate perpetrators in the film All the President's Men: "The truth is these are not very bright guys. And things got out of hand."Tortured_Genius wrote:Given the overall inept execution of the evil act I'd guess stupidity as the driver rather than malice.
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

So it is settled, then.

He rushes to Josh's aid and ignores the legitimate concerns brought forward by Peter Harrison and other staff members.
Pathetic.

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Honestly characterizing Josh as hard-working on a meta scale is probably right. But Josh was clearly giving a nod now and then to the forum (not working hard). I'm certain it's difficult for Richard to see both sides of the story right now in light of the remarks he cited. But in the end I hope Richard can see the good sense to taking at least a middle ground.Weaver wrote:RD has spoken ... supporting Josh all the way:

It's more evident than ever that he doesn't understand either the home he used to host, nor the reason so many felt betrayed and angry.
Clearly a lot of dust needs to settle. I am sad that Richard took this stance. I am also sad that Josh doesn't find it necessary to make his own apologies for his knee-jerk reaction to a very real problem.
Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
I don't get Richard. You fire all of your moderators, delete many posts, and freeze the forum from participation, and you are shocked, shocked, that people aren't taking it well.

Well, I, for one, am not joining the new forum. I feel fine here and over at the JREF.Wondering Fart wrote:Clearly a lot of dust needs to settle. I am sad that Richard took this stance. It's unfortunate that Richard forgot to mention the polite expressions of disappointed he got from many rd.net-users.

Thankyou to all of you for helping to create such a thriving community. I understand the hard work you have all put, and the unquestioning dedication you all have, and do have, for this community.
I would request that everyone who also wishes to express their thanks for the staff to do so here and post their name(s) (doesn't have to be their real name) so that we can keep a rolling list of the members in the (most likely) vain hope that someone at the top takes notice and perhaps rethinks their decision regarding the future of the staff here.

Plus, the thread is locked, despite the fact that the entire forum is read-only now, which means that locking the thread is entirely superfluous. Illustrative of the mindset, I would say.Weaver wrote:RD has spoken ... supporting Josh all the way:

Gimme a break, the constant technical failures had absolutely no role in attracting me to the board, nor did the "quality content" of pre-approved commentators. Looks like someone has no respect for the people who made the site what it is, nor any understanding of the reasons for the backlash on the site.Editorial control, mark you, by the person who, more than any other individual, has earned the right to the editor’s chair by founding the site in the first place, then maintaining its high standard by hard work and sheer talent.
