There are many other sites that provide this service.

Happy Birthday! :td:
Double thanks! :smooch:

I left because Josh and his little buddy have caused RDnet to commit suicide. It was already a fantastic social network, with shit loads of scientific information.
Josh must not have many close friends in real life.... :nono: He doesn't understand how the forum was like a safe, scientific, rational haven for so many of us. And now they've destroyed it.

Edit: Thanks for the link folks. :P

This from Matt on Homeopathy:

Nice article Richard. Shame we can't discuss it at the forum. We had some great sections that dealt with homeopathy and other kinds of woo, as well as science, religion and atheism; all representing the mission of the RDF. It is a shame that the administration here decided to apply what happened in general discussion a year ago to the whole forum; it is clear they never really understood the value of having such a popular atheist forum with invaluable resources.

If anything I know about Richard Dawkins is true, then he'll surely object to the loss of such worthwhile data from the likes of Peter Harrison and Calilasseia. Many of us learnt much about science from watching them take on creationists.
"The idea of a "god" creating the Universe is a mechanistic absurdity clearly derived from the making of machines by men." Fred Hoyle, The Black Cloud

"Your book of myths is about as much use as a fishnet condom is for birth control." Calilasseia

RDF was not forced to suicide Josh Timonen and Richard Dawkins murdered it.

After all, Richard used the forum himself a fair amount, so he can't have been blind to it. If we have enough people offering polite resistance maybe something might happen.

Richard reads the front page. Maybe if he sees our posts and decides to check out the blogs of Peter Harrison, DarkChilde et al, he might just pick up that phone and tell Josh to put things the way they were.
My own take on this (FWIW) is that RD has far too much "invested" in Josh at a strategic level to just cut him loose, which is what Josh certainly deserves (unless Josh was following orders very closely, which I doubt). RD can be quite the diplomat in public when he wants to be, but it would strain his diplomatic skill to find a middle ground and form of words that would mollify the RD.net forum membership, without completely trashing Josh at the same time. RD also has a habit of letting diplomacy degrade into obvious platitudes, something which I have personal experience of.

My inference about Richard was reasoned. Anyone who thinks he doesn't yet know what has happened is being naive. He has since found the time to post on the front page, and all the messages that were sent to him have gone from the outbox to the sent folder.

Have we seen any changes? Well, accounts aren't being deleted any more and I have a feeling that that has come from Richard or the foundation trustees. But anyone who's holding out for a Dawkinsian lone ranger riding to the rescue is in for a long wait.
Forums are interesting and if you don't agree, you can fuck off.

Pretty much looks like it.

The forum appears to be very much locked. Meanwhile, posts and threads are disappearing.

Oh well, I've been banned for a month now, so I've done as much as I can there. All I did was go a little off topic... unless it was for for flagging Mikes post... or for reporting the admin announcement as preaching. :ask:
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Another completely arbitrary action.

A month of course will take us beyond the final death of the forum. Maybe not so arbitrary at all. :coffee:
