My point is that if Richard is on a book tour, he's probably incredibly busy and stressed. I know I wouldn't want to deal with something like this if I were on a book tour. Give him time, and give the situation time. We don't know how much of a hand he had in this.
Julie
I appreciate you are a huge fan of his Julie, but his team, and through them him, have behaved absolutely terribly about the whole thing.
Sacking mods, deleting entire post records, preventing us from getting together elsewhere, shutting down PM's etc etc.
Personally I couldn't give a fuck if he's on a mission to the moon, it's his staff and his website and the people who have donated hundreds of hours of time for free to help him establish it have been treated worse than dirt.
He fucked up, or people fucked up in his name, I don't care, he'll always have my respect as a scientist and an educator, but if he wants respect as a person, he needs to fix this and show he actually gives a shit about people who worked tirelessly on his behalf for no reward apart from thinking that perhaps they were appreciated a little.
Look, maybe you're 100% right and it is his fault and he did some horrible things. I'm not saying he definitely did or didn't. I'm saying that we JUST DON'T KNOW.
I feel what you're saying, Julie. I'm not upset at Richard yet, cause I have no idea that he even knows what's going on, etc. I'm pretty well pissed at josh and andrew though (and I didn't even know who they were until this whole fiasco came about.)
P.S. great job on that call in on the radio show.

christ, I finally read Reality Is My Religion blog, RD dedicated his book to this guy!, how did I miss that before? That doesn't bode well for Dawkins laying much blame on Josh. I am getting more and more disenchanted with Dawkins, he's had plenty of time for some kind of response by now.

I'll give it a few days to see what RD officially says about the whole thing, but if its not good then its a shot of sake, put on my katana and rising sun headband, and then board one last flight into the battle.
Call me when you need a wingman viphren?!

It makes sense to co-ordinate it with like-winded others if there are any, so I'm happy to do that if it becomes necessary. Note for my part I don't want to be needlessly disruptive, nor in any way uncivil - just to make my displeasure obvious while retaining what dignity a self-respecting ass-raping space lizard possesses.
I'm all P's and Q's me!
Doesn't mean I wont expose some kindly worded, home truths though.
All in good time, we'll see what the Prof has to say.

It boggles my mind why the forum was closed. Yes, I understand that they did really stupid things like deleting posts and stuff, but what exactly HAPPENED to start the site's downfall?
num1cubfn, you found your way! You must of bee treading water for days! How did you survive?!
Great to see you, we could do with some cheering up around here!

By the time RD logged on, all the posts expressing discontent with the new "discussion area" had been removed. There's no telling what Josh told him about the matter.
Absolutely, and I have maintained that I'll reserve judgement with regard to Richard until we hear from him, assuming we actually do. The behaviour last night was Josh's, AFAIC, although the fact that Richard was online during a fair portion of this affair without comment does raise some questions.
Of course, it may well be that he was aware that the announcement was going to be made and was just checking in to see what the response was, unaware that the entire forum had been pulled.

this from the thread at JREF
Some were banned before and some after the forum was locked for good.
Even still, a simple revoking of posting rights would have sufficed. For example DarwinsBulldog had something like 13k of serious science posts with links to published papers on evolution. All gone, wiped clean. No need at all apart from pure spite at being criticized publicly. At least 4 other posters with huge track records are wiped clean too, not had posting privileges revoked, their entire record wiped clean. Current conservative estimate is over 30k of posts that up until last night were regarded as some of the most useful and educational on the site.

If he was online, he was in touch with Josh. An announcement would have been a simple matter of typing something up.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

It’s not like RD.net didn’t do down for (what was it?) 10 days a little while back.
But I disagree with suggestions this isn’t Prof Dawkins’ fault. Of course it’s bloody Prof Dawkins’ fault.

Whoever that Sledge guy is on JREF, he seems to have some sour grapes towards us. A little empathy from the community isn't much to ask, but I guess I never really considered what the outsider's opinion was of RDF. Maybe we don't get any sympathy.

That Sledge guy is a jackass. He doesn't understand what it means to lose thousands of posts because his posts are just full of bullshit. If I were him, I wouldn't understand why people were upset about losing their shit either. But he obviously fails to realise that not all people are brainless dopes like him, and actually contribute things of substance to the internet.
P.S What a jackass.
