I wouldn't be surprised if Josh was instructed by lawyers to delete anybody who fought back, to defriend RDFers on Facebook that he didn't know, and so forth.

And to write "Hey guys, we got legal issues...sorry" is too much to ask for then?
I would be very surprised if there would be any legal issues regarding the message boards.

There were in Oct. '08, and RD was quite up front in spelling them out as part of his explanation for removing explicit content. That stands in marked contrast to his complete silence this time around.

Why the ban on allowing us to get together and move elsewhere then?

Why remove signatures from the locked board just because some people had linked here to give people a chance to congregate and meet friends again?

That was just plain spiteful. Again, compare with what happen after the Oct. 08 schism, where a substantial (although not unlimited) degree of latitude was given by the forum staff to anyone who wanted to promote the breakaway forum.

I have no idea. Look, you could all be 100% right and I could be 100% wrong. But it's also possible that he was told not to even tell us there were legal issues. For now, let's post here, and in time I'm sure we'll find out what really happened-- whether you're right, I'm right, or it's somewhere in between.

Benefit of the doubt most definitely not given in this case. The fact is that we absolutely know what happened last night, because some of us were actually there when it all went down. There was no justification, even in the face of dissent, for deleting 30,000+ posts from 5 prolific posters. That is absolutely unforgivable, IMO. Further, it is clear that the forum was to be left open until a few people voiced their disappointment, and not even in any terms that violated the FUA. Josh's actions were designed with only one purpose in mind, namely a quiet life for Josh.

Just the fact that he 'forbade' (yeah, fucking right) any attempt to contact people and give them the means to gather away from the forum, like he has any fucking say over what people do with regard to the fellowship they've built up. This clearly demonstrates that he has no idea whatsoever about people.

Problem, though. He is up against the internets biggest community of gobshites, and we will not go quietly into that goodnight.

The cold calm that I have clung to for the last 24 hours is leaving me now, and I am thoroughly fucking pissed off, as are others, and with every right to be so.

Will someone explain to me in greater detail what the hell is going on here?

1. What happened? Did someone start a topic about how they couldn't get laid, or something else that blatantly broke the forum rules?

2. Are there current topics going to be vaporized in the memory hole, so to speak, instead of just locked?

3. Will the PM function still work? Will my current PMs remain, or will they be vaporized too?

4. Will we be able to post images? Moreover, what's going to become of my Richard Dawkins tribute art thread?

5. Will we still be able to comment on articles?
