We have, for some weeks, been trying to make the case for preserving the community of RD.net. All, it seems, for nought - the change was dropped on us, despite the promise of further consultation on the new format. Happily, those who made RD.net will now have more time to spend with other communities such as this one.

Thanks ratz! :td:

I'll add my thanks to RDF staff many of whom helped engineer positive changes in the board and put up with my climate change campaigns....

My former RDF staff colleagues may be distressed to hear it Doc, but for almost two years my finger was poised over the ban button. I wanted to ban every last idiotic climate change denier every time they posted. :funny: :funny:

*GREAT BIG GIANT HUGS*

Thank you so much for creating a spectacular forum. While RD inspired me, the people on RDF taught me. I wasn't a prolific poster or a smart one, just one of those question asking types :shifty:

In my small time on the Internet, I have learned something about amazing communities like RDF. Firstly when you loose them they are gone. No amount of oops sorry fixes it. Secondly ... its never the same again. That last one isn't always a bad thing, if you are very lucky then something better comes out of it all. I am very genuinely sad though that a community for atheists has been ripped apart over night ... we have so few and I honestly thought community building was something that RD found important.

Oh well ... *hugs for all of the refugees* can't wait to see what we build from this.

Yep couldn't agree more. RDNF was a community and the largest factor that made it was the unique style of moderation that allowed for a human face and dissent with a reasonable voice. You did good guys. A damn shame that one fascist control freak is all it took to upset the apple cart. But I have very good feelings about this site. :td:

The membership gave it life and made things interesting not to mention fun. Even though they do not agree good people are everywhere.

I want to add my deep, hearfelt thanks to the mods as well. I treasured that vibrant, diverse community more than I can possibly express here. You guys helped to create an invaluable environment for education and entertainment, and for that I will always be grateful. What a tremendous loss.

I remember that when I had a gripe about something, Topsy always had time for me in PMs. Thats why I stuck by her and the rest of the staff during the controversy over the closure of vets and feral OT. They helped make that forum what it was, by allowing open discussion and only stepping in when things got heated.

I’ll add my voice to this too.

The mods did a great job. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to always try to see the ‘right’ point of view and not let one’s personal feelings get in the way when moderating.

I can’t say that I ever saw anything our (RDF) mods did that was inappropriate. While all of you got a rather unceremonious boot for all of your hard work, you still have one thing they couldn’t take away from you guys/gals, that’s pride in the work you did to keep a huge community on-track and focused.

You ex-mods aren’t the losers, RDNet is! They had a top-notch team working for them and a huge base of caring and dedicated followers. It’s their loss, this site’s gain. :td:
